Mrs. Junnie Phifer-Chattmon

PHIFER-CHATTMON, Mrs. Junnie - age 63, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014 at her residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2014 at Canaan Baptist Church, 910 E. Gillespie St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Charles E. Roots officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Monday. Mrs. Phifer-Chattmon will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday with family present from 3-5 p.m. Mrs. Junnie Phifer-Chattmon was born March 3, 1951 to Clifton and Velma (Wright) Phifer, the second oldest of twelve children. She was a 1969 graduate of Kirby High School in Woodville, Texas. Junnie continued her education at Mott Community College, Baker College, and Detroit College of Business. She was an Assistant Supervisor in the Classified Advertising Department at the Flint Journal, retiring in 2007 after 31 years of service. She worked part-time at Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. Junnie was a member of Canaan Baptist Church since 1990, where she served on the Trustee Ministry, Soul Winning Ministry, Pastor’s Anniversary Ministry, Matron’s Ministry, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Junnie loved the Lord and did all her duties. She was a devout Christian, soft spoken, beautiful person inside and out, emotional and very loving, especially to her family. She loved bowling, traveling with her husband, spending time with her grandchildren, and she loved her job at the Flint Journal. Surviving are: devoted husband of 17 years, Roy Chattmon; children, Shajuan Walker of Dallas, TX, Charles (Angela) Phifer of Lawrenceville, GA; Tanishia (Anthony) Adams of Flint, Anthony (Alana) Phifer of Southfield, MI, Monique Lard of Columbus, GA and Kenyatta (Sheila) Chattmon of Flint; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; mother, Velma Phifer of Flint; brothers and sisters, Verlon (Sheila) Walker of Adalanto, CA, Bertha (the late Leon, Sr.) Fant of Woodville, TX, Thelma (Rev. Lugene) Maxie of Flint, Clifton Phifer, Jr. (Kathlene) of Woodville, TX, Dorothy (Craig) Calloway of Flint, MI, Velma (Ricky) Owens of Flint, MI, Diane Walker of Austin, TX, Robert Phifer of Austin, TX, Jill (Bernard) Walker of Mt. Morris, MI, Anthony (Tonya) Phifer of Austin, TX; uncle, Harold Hudson of Arkadelphia, AR; aunt, Dorothy Phifer of St. Louis, MO; brothers-in-law, Earl Furlow, Eric (Jackie) Furlow and Raymond (LaShonda) Furlow; sisters-in-law, Linda Grigsby and Tara Furlow (Diantre) Howell; many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends including special friends, Linda and Jerry Matthews, Charlotte (Rev. Odis) Murphy, Barbara (Rev. Charles) Goza; Wonda Simmons, Ruth Barclay, Nadine Barlow and Freddie Thomas, all of Woodville, TX. Junnie was preceded in death by her father, Clifton Phifer, Sr.; father-in-law, Woodrow Chattmon; mothers-in-law, Wynell Furlow and Gladys Burden; sister, Audry Delores Phifer; grandparents, Edgar (Bertha Gant) Wright, Russell and Junnie (Phifer) Bailey; brother-in-law, Terry Furlow; and special aunt, Ola Rigsby. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Swamy, Dr. Peran, Cancer Treatment Centers of America and the University of Michigan Cancer Center.
