PICKETT, Mrs. June Ester - Age 72, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Detroit Receiving Hospital. Family hour 10AM Friday, October 12, 2007 at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Pastor Marvin A. Jennings, Sr., officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Friday. Mrs. Pickett will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Thursday. Mrs. June Ester Pickett was born June 21, 1935 in Fairfield, Alabama to Walter Johnson and Bertha Byrd. In 1954 upon completion of graduating from Hale County Training School of Greensboro, Alabama Mrs. Pickett came to Flint, MI. Sister Pickett began her career as a Senior Nursing Assistant upon completion of Hurley Medical Center SNA program. Sister Pickett enjoyed working with patients on the Adolescent Pediatric Unit and her "Working Buddies" on 3C and 1-East. She retired after 30 years of service from Hurley Medical Center in 1985. Sister Pickett loved to travel, she has been to London, England, Bahamas, Canada, and all over the United States. Everyone who knew Sister Pickett knows her first passion was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Sister Pickett was a former member of St. Paul, and St. Mark Baptist Church, also a founding member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. Later she joined under Pastor Emeritus Lindell Brady, Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Ministry Leader, Nurses Ministry, and Golden Voices. Ultimately June was Coordinator of the Prayer Ministry where she faithfully earned the title "PRAYER WARRIOR". Mrs. June Ester Pickett leaves to cherish her memory: husband of 49 years, Ted Sr.; 2 children; Therena (Wallace) Elliott, and Ted Jr.; 9 grandchildren; Terrance (Adrina), Neisha (LaRon), Ian, Bri Henderson, Jasmine, Nijell, Ashley, Rueben and George; 4 great- grandchildren; Gabrielle, Marissa, Terrance Joshua and Alexa; 2 sisters, Geneva Robinson of Flint, Michigan, and Elizabeth Jackson of Saginaw, Michigan; 1 brother, Ray Bryd of Saginaw, MI; daughter-in-law, Marietta Pickett;Brother-in-Law, Fred Pickett of Flint, Michigan; nieces, Tujunana (John) Reaves, Sharol Little, Vanessa (Lloyd) Brackins, Janessa Robinson, Theresa (Jaymes) Wesley, Therese (Quinton) Barbee, Elaine (Dennis) Edwards; nephews, William and David Calloway, Walter Simpson and Ellis (Pearl) Simpson; god-daughter, Chinetha Gibbs; a host of great-nieces and nephews, other caring relatives, church family, and friends including, Audrey Wilson, Rita Washington, Julie Morris, Patricia Payne and Jorgina Rubin. Sister Pickett was preceded in death by her twin daughter and son, Alisha & Allen; parents; sister, Juanita Johnson; brothers, Jimmy and Lafette. The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to Dr. Norris and Nurse Luladay Tebeje at Detriot Receiving Hospital, 2nd floor staff of Genesys Regional Medical Center, Dwight Price, Pastor George Wilkerson, Rev. Jeffery Wheeler, Pastor Marvin A. Jennings, Sr. and Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church family.
