DOBY, Mrs. Julia - Age 72, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd, with funeral service commencing immediately at 2 p.m. Min. Oscar L. Roberts officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Mrs. Doby will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawerence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Friday with family present from 5-8 p.m. Mrs. Julia Doby was born May 9, 1939 in Greenville, Georgia, the daughter of Johnie and Julia Render. Julia was the second oldest of four girls, they also had three sons. She moved to Flint, Michigan with her family around 1944. Julia joined Mt. Sinia Baptist Church and later moved her membership to King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church. Julia married Sonny Mason at a young age and to that union one daughter was born, Kathy, whom she cherished. She later married Joe Doby, who had three beautiful children that Julia raised as her own, JoAnn, Barbara and Larry. Julia worked at Hurley Medical Center for 27 years faithfully until her retirement. She was a classy lady, who showed us all how to dress to impress. Julia was someone we all looked up to. She loved life and living and always made everyone feel as if they were her favorite. Julia would always say, “Who Loves Ya Baby.” Mrs. Julia Doby leaves to cherish her memory: longtime companion, Alfonso Stewart; 2 daughters, JoAnn (Eld Fernandez) Lloyd and Barbara Doby; son, Larry (Michelle) Doby; 6 grandchildren, Latwana (Darnell) Legrone, Lashaunda Doby, Rashina Doby, Tyrone Doby, Maurice Morris IV, and Larry Doby; 2 sisters, Evelyn Strickland and Carrie Roberts, all of Flint; favorite nieces, Sharon Burgess and Cynthia Williams; sister-in-law, Emma Render; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Mr. and Mrs. George Wallace. Mrs. Doby was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Julia Render; daughter, Kathy Williams; 3 brothers, John Jr., Roger and Reuben Render; sister, Alice Shields; 2 brothers-in-law, Oscar Lee Roberts and J. Lee Strickland; and son-in-law, Delmar Williams. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Hurley Medical Center and Dr. Syed.
