Mrs. Judy Mitchell-Balknight

MITCHELL-BALKNIGHT, Mrs. Judy - Age 52, passed away Monday, April 17, 2017 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 AM Thursday, April 27, 2017 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 AM Thursday. Mrs. Mitchell-Balknight will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM Wednesday. Ms. Judy Mitchell-Balknight was born May 29, 1964 in Evanston, Illinois, the daughter of Janie Pearl Mitchell and William Mitchell Sr.. Ms. Balknight joined Foss Avenue MBC, where her grandfather, Nevlon Mitchell Sr., was a founding member, soon after coming to Flint, MI. She loved the Lord, and prayed often. She attended Flint Public Schools and graduated from Flint Northern High School. Along with being a housewife, Judy was self-employed, and had a “God Given Gift” for numbers. She centered her life around her kids, whom she cherished. Judy loved solving puzzles and listening to “Down Home Blues”, in her spare time. One of her favorite restaurants was Church's Chicken, and she always liked it “Hot”. Judy will definitely be missed by all who knew her. Ms. Judy Mitchell-Bailknight leaves to cherish her memory: 3 sons, Joe Balknight III of Big Rapids, MI, Frank Buckley Jr. and Roy Buckley, both of Flint; mother, Janie P. Mitchell; 2 brothers, William Mitchell Jr. and Traveil Phillip, both of Flint; 2 sisters, Belinda and Wanda Mitchell both of Flint; nieces, April, Shyla, Shamekia, Alisha Robinson of Jacksonville, TN, Monique Mitchell of Flint and Tiffany Riggs of Dallas, TX, great nieces, ZaRiah, Dalana, Richiona, Klaritee; 3 nephews, Alphonzo and Aaron Robinson, Lance Bowers Jr.; great nephews, Deonte Jr., Kennyada Jr.; 2 aunts, Debra Miller of Evanston, ILL, and Jackie Mitchell of Hampton, VA; uncles, UnGay Kelly and Joe Kelly Miller, both of Evanston, ILL, Nevlon Mitchell of Maryland, Donald R. Mitchell of Colorado Springs, CO; and mother in law, Eva Balknight, a host of other relatives and friends including special friends; Joe Balknight II of North Carolina, Frank Buckley Sr. and Ola Crawford, both of Flint. Ms. Balknight was preceded in death by: father, William J. Mitchell Sr; grand parents, Annie R. Kelly and Henry Miller, Nevlon Mitchell Sr. and Emma Rena Mitchell; father in law, Joe R. Balknight Sr.; nephew, Deonte Robinson Sr.; aunts, Betty Phillip and Brenda Miller; and uncle, Jimmy Miller. The family would like to express special thanks to Rev. Nevlon Mitchell (uncle) and family, and all the family and friends that came by or called, the Mays Family and Ola “Tulu” Crawford.
