Juanita Vann

VANN, Ms. Juanita - Age 64, was called home by the Lord, Saturday, October 15, 2011 at her residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2011 at Riverside Tabernacle, 429 NB Chavez St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Thomas Mattiuzzo, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Friday. Ms. Vann will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Thursday. Ms. Juanita Vann was born May 25, 1947 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Boyice and Alberta Riley, Sr. Juanita was a long time resident of Flint. She accepted Christ at an early age. Juanita graduated from Flint Southwestern in 1966. She had many jobs while growing up. Juanita worked at Fisher Body Plant I, a division of General Motors Corporation; however she retired from Buick City, General Motors Corporation, after 30 years of dedicated service and was an active member of UAW Local 599. Juanita enjoyed traveling, going to the casino and spending time with her family. She was an outstanding mother, super great grandmother and a dedicated great-grandmother. Juanita was a wonderful sister and friend. She was a person who you could always count on whenever you were in need of help. Juanita had a great sense of humor and could always make you laugh. She had a wonderful smile and always kept things real. Ms. Juanita Vann leaves to cherish her loving memories: 3 daughters, Gloria Cheeks (Timothy Sanders), Anita Riley, all of Flint and Angelique Riley (Michael Marengo) of Jackson, MI; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Laverne Harden of Bellingham, WA and Verna Jean Gulledge of Flint; 1 brother, Boyice (Donna) Riley, Jr. of Broken Arrow, OK; 1 aunt, Ethelean Cole of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins including special cousins, John Douglas; special friends, Rutha Smith, Adine Suggs, Willie Wheeler, Riley Williams and Betty Banks. Ms. Vann was preceded in death by her parents, Boyice and Alberta Riley, Sr.; grandparents, Burrell and Bessie Holley; aunts, Rosie Lee Butler and Daisy Gulley; uncle and aunt, Herman and Alice Holley, Sr.; cousins, Raymond Holley, Sr., Gerald Thompson and Tammy McCoy. The family would like to express special thanks to the doctors and staff at Hurley Medical Center and McLaren Regional Medical Center, all family and friends during our time of sorrow.
