SMITH, Mrs. Joyce Ann - Age 71, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Ascension Genesys Hospital. Family hour 10:00 AM Monday, March 2, 2020 at New Creation Church of God, 3472 Lennon Rd., with service commencing at 11:00 AM Dr. Herbert L. Banks officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Monday. Mrs. Smith will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Sunday with the family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Mrs. Joyce Ann Smith was born May 29, 1948 in Philadelphia, Mississippi, the daughter of Devon and Ora Bell (Backstrom) Earnest. Joyce was a resident of Flint, Michigan and was a member of New Creation Church of God. She was employed at Flint Delphi, a division of General Motors Corporation for 30 years until she retired on October 18, 2006. Joyce Ann Smith enjoyed her Crossword Puzzles, games, shopping, baking cakes, traveling and watching western movies. Mrs. Joyce Ann Smith leaves to cherish her memories: son, Anthony Devon (Latoya) Earnest; daughter, Tanisha Marie (Jason) Tharpe of Bartow, FL; 2 step-children, Regina Smith (LeJuan) Richardson and Nicolette (Richard) Westbrook, all of Flint; 8 grandchildren, DeArius Earnest-Griggs, Javon and Jashon Thorpe, all of Bartow, FL, Daysia Jordan of Norfolk, VA, LaDarrius Anderson, Dalon Earnest, Carter and Akari Earnest, all of Grand Blanc, MI; great-grandchild, DeMari Griggs of Bartow, FL; sister, Gloria J. Mayberry; 2 nieces, Colette (Juan) Goosby, both of Flint and Yolanda Gadson of South Bend, IN; nephew, Terrance Mayberry of Flint; father-in-law, Dewitt Smith Sr. of Enid, MS; sister-in-law Margie Anderson of McDonough, GA; 3 brothers-in-law, James (Stephanie) Smith of Carrollton, GA, Walter (Eunice) Ward of Batesville, MS and Jesse Mayberry of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends Patricia Cornelius and Louise Mitchell, both of Flint. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, A.B. “Red” Smith; parents, Devon and Ora Bell Earnest; step-son, Wayne Smith; brothers-in-law, Dewitt Jr. and Leon Smith.
