MONROE, Mrs. Joyce Renaye (Howlett) - Age 55, transitioned to her heavenly home Wednesday, January 21, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. Homegoing Service 12Noon Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, 1851 W. Carpenter Rd., Eld. Kenneth L. Stewart officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the church 12Noon Wednesday. There will be no public viewing. Mrs. Joyce Renaye Howlett-Monroe was born October 22, 1953 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to Elouise and Edmond Howlett Jr. Joyce was a graduate of Flint Northern High School "Class of 1971". She continued her education at Grambling State University for one year. Joyce accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age, and was a member of several churches before becoming a member of The House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church under the spiritual direction of Elder Kenneth L. Stewart. She was employed by General Motors, Flint Assembly Plant (Flint Truck and Bus) and was a member of Local UAW 598. Joyce retired after 30 years of service on July 1, 2006. Joyce was united in Holy Matrimony to Felix Monroe Jr. on July 24, 1992. She was a devoted wife and loving mother who always placed her children first to Desheila Howlett and Felix Jamaal (Virginia) Monroe. As a woman of great talent with many interests, she enjoyed boating with the original (E-Dock and Friends Cruising Group), crocheting with co-workers while creating a multitude of varying crafts with relatives and friends, Interior and exterior decorating, gardening and design. Her creativity is evident in the loving home that she created for her husband and children. Joyce’s flair for design was very much appreciated also by the Beautification Committee of the Grandview Lake Homeowners’ Association. Mrs. Joyce Monroe leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Felix Monroe, Jr.; daughter, Desheila Cheri Howlett; son, Felix Jamaal Monroe; parents, Elouise and Edmond Howlett; grandparents, Jessie and Mary Woodard; sister, Pamela Howlett; niece, Nikeya Jenkins; nephew, Jalin Harper; 3 aunts, Maddie Littleton, Opal Lane and Hellen Day; uncle, Jessie Woodard; 15 cousins, Ray Littleton, Beverly Littleton, Barbara Eichelberger, Heidi Jordan, Brenda Bowden, Kim Lane, Michelle Lane, Jonetta Lane, Michael Day, Ronald Day, Karen Day, Anita Simpson, Gerald Lane, Toya Jordan and Janice; mother and father-in-law, Felix and Essie Monroe; sisters-in-law, Joyce Thomas, Barbara Randolph and Christine Allen; brothers-in-law, Walter and William Monroe; a host of other relatives and friends, Karen Scruggs, Maria Cotton, Jackie Camper, Irene Johnson and Lonnell Curtis. Mrs. Monroe was preceded in death by grandparents, Mary and Jesse Woodard and Elnora and Edmond Howlett; aunt, Barbara Jordan; cousins, Shirley Littleton, Denise Littleton and George Whaley; uncle, James Woodard.
