METCALF, Mrs. Joyce A. (Doggett) - Age 59, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2010 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m., Pastor Sophronia Fowlkes officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Bedford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Metcalf will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Joyce Annetta Doggett Metcalf was born on February 13th, 1951 at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Michigan, she is the daughter of Joseph and Gwendolyn (Johnson) Doggett. Joyce attended Flint Public Schools and graduated from Flint Northern High school in 1969. She enlisted in the United States Air force, serving two years. Joyce also served in the Air force Reserves and retired after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Flint AMVETS Chapter 1001, where she was the first female member. Joyce served as secretary for her AMVETS chapter. She met Norman Metcalf in December of 1995 and they married on February 14, 2003. She retired from Hurley Hospital after 30 years of service. Joyce loved technology and considered herself to be very “tech savvy”. She was proud that she was able to take apart a computer and put it back together on her own, just so she could say she did it. Joyce loved to possess the latest technological “gadgets” and was always looking forward to the next technological breakthrough so she could try it out. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend to many. Mrs. Joyce A. (Doggett) Metcalf leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Norman Metcalf; son, Eric (Erika) Harding of Smyrna, GA; sister, Barbara Doggett; nephew, Nathan Doggett of Grand Rapids, MI; step-children, Marshon Mackenzie of El Paso, TX, Anthony Reaves, Michael Toles, Shiela (Henry) Bariess, Steven Metcalf of Alpharetta, GA, and Amie (Courtney) Metcalf-Garner; grandchild, Elise Ilene Harding; step grandchildren, Justin and Steven Curry and Courtney Garner; numerous other step-grandchildren; godmother, Dorothy Hawkins; god-niece, Melanie Moore; aunts, Vivian Bentley and Carol Murphy; uncle, Marvin (Jonetta) Doggett of Memphis, TN and Pat Doggett of California; a host of cousins and relatives, including special cousins, Pam Holley and Charles Delane and special friends, Sandra Campbell, Debra Jones, Karlous Pettey, Mary Brady, Clarence and Linda Moore. Mrs. Metcalf was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Gwendolyn Doggett.
