Higgins, Mrs. Joyce Ann - Age 86, passed away Sunday August 18, 2024, at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, September 21, 2024 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd, with memorial service commencing at 2:00 PM. There will be no public viewing. Joyce Ann Higgins, born on January 22, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, at the age of 86 on August 18, 2024. Joyce made her home in Flint, Michigan, where she built a family, and created a lifetime of cherished memories. She was the beloved daughter of Anna Morris (passed in 1994) and Walter E. Curtis Sr. (passed in 1964). The eldest of seven siblings, Joyce is preceded in death by Walter Jr., Pauline, Gloria, Alma, and Robert Curtis. She is survived by her sister, Evelyn. Joyce's life was marked by her devotion to family, her infectious laughter, and her undeniable love for life. She leaves behind a lasting legacy through her three children: Lavell Berry, Nicole Berry-Hood, and Derrick Higgins, all of whom were the light of her life. Her role as a grandmother brought her immense pride, and she leaves behind six grandchildren who adored her: Jordan Berry, Summer Berry, Armani Hood, Jacqueline J. Hood, Houston Berry Hood, and Myles L. Thompson. Joyce was also blessed to be a great-grandmother to Vera Kait Berry. Her family and extended relatives, including many nephews, nieces, cousins, and close friends will remember Joyce for her kind spirit, open heart, and ability to connect with everyone she met. Known for her passion for fashion, Joyce had a long career at SEARS, where she spent many years sharing her love for style and helping customers feel their best. Afterward, she transitioned to the Flint Board of Education, where she found fulfillment working in a vibrant community that she loved. Wherever Joyce went, her lively personality shined through, and her presence made every space feel brighter. Joyce was a social butterfly at heart—whether she was chatting on the phone for hours with loved ones, keeping up with the latest news, or cracking jokes that brought out laughter in everyone around her. She never missed an opportunity to bring joy to others, her sharp wit and sense of humor were always close at hand. Her light was something she carried everywhere, touching all who crossed her path, from friends to strangers alike. In her 86 years, Joyce shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and wisdom with those around her. Her unwavering faith in God was a guiding force throughout her life, giving her strength and solace in both times of joy and hardship. Her faith remained a constant, comforting presence, carrying her through life's many seasons.As we say goodbye to Joyce, we honor the legacy she leaves behind—a legacy of warmth, compassion, humor, and deep love for family.
