Mr. Joseph Howard

HOWARD, Mr. Joseph - Age 77, passed away Friday, August 2, 2013 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2 p.m. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Friday. Mr. Howard will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Joseph Howard was born January 16, 1936 in Alexandria, Louisiana; the son of Rene Lee and Prince Howard. He confessed Christ and was baptized at an early age where he attended Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated from Peabody High School in Alexandra, LA. Upon graduation, he moved to Flint, MI, where he worked and retired from General Motors after 32 years of service. Joseph was united in marriage to Cornelia Annie Deloris Howard for 47 years, in which he fathered 4 sons and one daughter and 3 sons from a previous marriage. While in Flint, he attended Foss Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Choir and served on the Trustee Board. After leaving, he and his family became members of New Israel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of his brother-in-law, Pastor Daniel Bridges; where Joseph served faithfully until his death. He loved fishing, gardening, singing and cooking. Mr. Howard leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Cornelia Annie Deloris Howard; daughter, Erika Howard; sons, Stanley Howard, Randy Howard, Gregory Howard, Prince Howard, Reginald Howard, Benjamin Howard and Joseph Howard II; grandchildren, Patrick Johnson, Patria Johnson, Jeremiah White Howard, Brooklyn Howard, Lavonte’ Howard, Joseph Wilbanks Howard, Cierra Howard and Amanda Howard; 3 sisters, Loretha Lattimore of Flint, Leatha Mae Metcalfe of Baldwin, MI and Vergie Mae (Jerome) Stanford of Alexandria, LA; 4 sisters-in-law, Naomi (Daniel) Bridges of Flint, Evelyn (Charles) Jones and Hattie (Larry) Williams all of Alexandria, LA and Selena (Moses) Lamb of Houston, TX; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Rene Lee and Prince Howard; sisters, Corine Cotton, Dorothy and Thelma; brothers, Chester, and J.C. Howard; and in-laws, Henry (Cornelia) Gordon. The family would like to express special thanks to Hurley Medical Center 9 east, PCU and ICU Departments, Dr. Saeed, Dr. Danish, Pastor Daniel Bridges and New Israel Missionary Baptist Church family; Pastor and Mrs. Bizzle of Victory In The Word Ministries; Angie Lindsey, Naomi Bridges, Lee and Rose Lattimore and all the family friends.
