COLEMAN, Mr. Joseph L. - Age 52, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2010 at Greater Friendship Azusa C.O.G.I.C., G-5165 Detroit St., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon, Supt. Birdie Shields officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers willl assemble at the church 11 a.m. Friday. Mr. Coleman will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Joseph L. Coleman was born March 3, 1958 in Blytheville, Arkansas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie and Josephine Coleman. Joseph was introduced to church at an early age, an attended Nehemiah Temple COGIC in Blytheville, under the leadership of Elder John Moore, Sr. He was a high school graduate of Blytheville High where he was known as “Joe Block” for his talent in football. “Joe” entered the United States Army on July 19, 1979. He served 3 years and 14 days and received an Honorable Discharge on August 2, 1982. “Joe” soon moved to Flint, and was employed over 25 years at Truck and Bus, a division of General Motors, retiring in 2009. He loved his grandchildren and had a smile that would light anyone’s heart. “Joe” loved music, his children and his family. He was very protective of his sisters and daughters. Joseph was also known to be protective and look out for his female relatives. He would always tell his nieces and nephews to listen to their parents, that it would take them a long way; he passed on what his mom instilled in him. Mr. Joseph L. Coleman leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Vivian Coleman-Miller; 3 daughters, Camisha (Albert) Coleman-Miller, Sierra (Anthony) Coleman and Alize` (Marc) Coleman; 7 grandchildren, Ja`Quez, Amarion, Amire, Ah`zarius, Mar’zay, Aircontae` and Naivivah, all of Flint; mother, Josephine Coleman; 8 sisters, Ethel (James) Robinson of Moundville, AL, Brenda (Anthony) McClain, Sandra (Cecil) Mitchell, all of Blytheville, AR, Dorothy Dorsett, Velma Mizell, Terri Lewis, Bonita Tellis and Deborah Coleman, all of Flint; 5 brothers, Richard (Charlene), Willie (Valerie) Coleman of Blytheville, AR, Eddie (Helen), Clyde (Liz) Coleman, all of Flint and Ronald (Beverly) Coleman of Greensboro, NC; 2 sisters-in-law, Eunice Elliott and Roxann Miller; 2 brothers-in-law, Albert Elliott, all of Flint and Ralph Elliott, Pulaski, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Darion Robert, Rodney Balknight and Sylvester (Barbra) Swinton. Mr. Coleman was preceded in death by his father, Willie Coleman, Sr.; sisters, Willie Mae Coleman-Jackson and Rosetta Rumph; grandparents; nephew, Tony Rumph; and brother-in-law, Roosevelt Mizell I.
