Mr. Joseph Lester Bess

BESS, Mr. Joseph Lester - Age 62, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2020 at his residence. Family hour 11:00 AM Monday, March 30, 2020 at Secret Place Tabernacle, 1701 Harrison St., with funeral service commencing at 11:30 AM Pastor Nate Dennis, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Monday. Mr. Bess will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Sunday. Mr. Joseph “Lester” Bess was born June 11, 1957 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Josephine Powell and Joe Bess. Joseph, affectionately known as Lester, was a lifelong resident of Flint. He attended Flint Southwestern High School and dedicated 25 years to General Motors Corporation. Lester accepted Christ at an early age, but rekindled his love for God when he joined the Secret Place Tabernacle in 2005. He was a faithful member and served as Deacon, Trustee of 16 years, Assistant Chairman of the Usher Board and any other role Pastor Dennis needed him to play! Lester had a love for the kitchen like none other. He could cook and bake with the best of them and enjoyed having family around his table. Lester took pride in his appearance and was guaranteed to be one of the “sharpest”, best dressed person in the room. He was a straight shooter and often reminded us to “know ya worth.” Lester was a devoted family man that took exceptional care of his mother and pride in his role as brother and uncle. He had a unique relationship with each sibling, niece and nephew. Lester will be sorely missed! Mr. Joseph “Lester” Bess leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Brittney Edwards of Arlington, TX; 4 grandchildren, Aiyanna Spencer, Joseph Powell, Sydney Edwards and London Edwards; 3 sisters, special sister/best friend, Brenda (Raymond) Tucker of Indianapolis, IN, Eleanor and Regina Powell; brother, Joe Hans Powell, all of Flint; 3 nieces, Tyrhonda (Antonio) Williams, all of Flint, Teneal (Chuck) Hudson of Indianapolis, IN and Johanna Powell of Flint; nephew, Raymond (Laura) Tucker of Rochester Hills, MI; great-nieces, Brianna Evans, Danielle (Austin) Jacob, Adasia, Alyssia and Ashari Williams, Tania Hudson; great-nephews, George Evans, Charles “CJ” Hudson, Raymond “RJ’ and Devon Tucker; great-great-niece, Aubrey Evans; great-great-nephew, Aidan Alexander; a host of cousins including special cousins, Pastor Nate Dennis, Betty Maberry and Linda McKinney; very special friend, Teresa Morgan; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Freddie Darrough, Michael Roche, Camille Owens, Doretha Breed, Mary Davis-Roberts, Travonda Edwards, Tammy Edwards-Lietzsey and the Secret Place Tabernacle Church family. Mr. Bess was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Powell; father, Joe Bess; special aunt, Annie Wagner. The family would like to express special thanks to the Secret Place Tabernacle family, Bethlehem Temple Church of the Apostolic Faith family and Eckley St. family. ********At Lawrence E.
