ODNEAL, Mrs. Johnnie A. - Age 76, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 11 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1083 E. Stewart Ave. with funeral service commencing at 12 p.m. Pastor Lewis Randolph officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 11 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Odneal will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday with the family present from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. Mrs. Johnnie Odneal was born September 4 1937 in Crawford, Mississippi, the daughter of James and Lover Hairston. Johnnie loved the Lord and confessed her faith in Christ at an early age. She graduated in 1954 from Moore High School in Oktibbeha County, MS. Johnnie married the love of her life J.B. Odneal on February 8, 1955 and they relocated to Flint, five children were born to this marriage, four boys and 1 girl. Johnnie loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and all of her family. She was a sweet woman with a big smile, who made everyone feel loved. Johnnie loved sports especially college basketball, her favorite team was the North Carolina Tar Heels. She retired from Hurley Hospital in 1992 and she was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnnie Odneal leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 58 years, J.B. Odneal Sr. daughter, Verlinda Odneal; four sons, Curtis Odneal, J.B. (Shirley) Odneal Jr., Glenn (Myra Dawson) Odneal and James (Alice) Odneal all of Flint; 14 grandchildren, Dwayne Odneal, Alisa Threlkeld, Aaron Odneal, Quiona Odneal, Brandi Odneal, Daniel Lewis II, DeShawn Dawson, Kelly Fielder, Katrina Fielder, Kimberly Fielder and Krystal Fielder all of Flint; Andre Odneal of Lansing, MI; Ericka Odneal of St. Paul, MN; LaShantel Robertson of New York; 3 great-grandchildren, Jalen Odneal of Flushing, MI and Mia and Jada Odneal of Lansing; four sisters, Lizzie Hairston of Chicago, IL; Margaret Smith and Bernice Watson of Memphis, TN; Harriette (N.F.) Odneal of St. Louis, MO; 3 brothers, James (Lacresha) Hairston, Jimmie (Nina) Hairston of St. Louis, MO and George Hairston of Flint; 13 nieces and 11 nephews; three sisters-in-law, Mary (Mose) Tucker of Swartz Creek, MI, Barbara Brooks of Flint and Hattie Odneal of Brooksville, MS; 2 brothers-in-law, Willie (Helen) Odneal of Crawford, MS and Sam Lyde; a host of other relatives and friends including special cousin Mary Dulaney. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lover Hairston; sister Bettie Hairston, sisters-in-law, Queen Sykes, Geraldine Lyde and Essie Peat; brother-in-law, Robert Odneal, mother-in-law, Bessie Odneal and father-in-law, JB Odneal. The family would like to thank Rev. Lewis Randolph and Antioch Missionary Baptist Church family; Pastor Timothy Stokes and Family Worship Center Church International family and McLaren Hospital especially the 6 floor staff; Barbara Brooks, Mose and Mary Tucker and granddaughter, Alisa Threlkeld.
