MAZIQUE, Mr. Johnnie "Jeff" E. - Age 80, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour will be held 5PM-6PM Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Mr. Mazique will lie in state for viewing from 1PM-5PM Tuesday. Afterwhich Mr. Mazique will be taken to: Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home, 300 Martin Luther King Jr., St., Natchez, MS, 39120, (601) 445-8264. Mr. Johnnie E. Mazique was born October 6, 1928 in Natchez, Mississippi, the son of Willie and Mamie Mazique. Johnnie was a resident of Flint, Michigan, but was born and raised in Natchez, Mississippi. He was a “Class of 1948” graduate of Brumfield High School. Following school he served in the United States Army for 2 years and was Honorable Discharged. After serving in the U.S. Army, Johnnie migrated to Flint in 1956, where he worked at General Motors until his retirement in 1988. Johnnie loved to play his guitar. He was a loving, kind, and generous hearted man. “Jeff” was an intelligent and fun loving person. He will be well missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Johnnie E. Mazique leaves to cherish his memory: 1 sister, Mrs. Alice M. Woods of Flint; 2 daughters, Esperanda Smith Hunt of Natchez, MS and Jennifer Harris of Flint; 1 son, Willie James Mazique of Natchez, MS; godson, Corey Harris; 8 grandchildren, Kirya (Yolanda) Duncan of Atlanta, GA, Erica (Ray) Johnson of St. Louis, MO, Katrina Yearby and Erika Yearby, both of Natchez, MS, Sylvia Letcher of Memphis, TN, Devonte Mazique and Beyonce Mazique, both of Natchez, MS, Demetrius L. Smith of Jackson, MS; 19 great-grandchildren; 5 nieces; 10 nephews; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Mr. Mazique was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Mamie Mazique; grandson, Timothy Jamal Letcher; 2 brothers, Willie Mazique and James “Bill” Mazique; and 2 sisters, Edna Mazique and Laura Williams, all of Natchez, MS. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Hurley Medical Center, and to all of our family and friends for your prayers, presence, love, telephone calls and all other expressions of concern shown during our time of bereavement.
