GOODMAN, Mr. Johnnie Lee - Age 93, passed away Friday, April 17, 2026, at Serene Gardens - Grand Blanc, MI. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Rev. Dr. Rabon Turner, officiating. Interment Evergreen Cemetery, G-3415 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Saturday. Mr. Goodman will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday with family present from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Johnnie Lee Goodman Sr. passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026 and was called to his eternal home by his Lord and Savior. Johnnie was born to Reverend John G. Goodman and Bertha Goodman on May 17, 1932, in Benton, Louisiana. He was affectionately called “Ditt” by his brothers and sisters. Johnnie did not complete grade school, a circumstance that shaped much of his life and fueled his fierce independence and determination to chart his own course. Johnnie’s independent spirit landed him all over the country from Houston, Texas to Los Angeles, California, and then to Michigan where he chose to finally settle, and the real story began. Johnnie arrived in Pontiac, Michigan in 1953 to work for General Motors Corporation. He returned to Louisiana where he met and then married his bride, Curtis Etta on September 19, 1954. In fact, he brought the remainder of his family and many friends to Michigan for work. Three children were born to this union Johnnie Jr., Bruce and Angie. Upon arriving to Flint, Michigan, Johnnie was a Charter Member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church where his father was the founding pastor and he was a faithful member and a treasurer. He later joined Triumph Church; formerly known as North Star Missionary Baptist church where he remained until the time of his passing. Johnnie had an immense love for real estate, buying, selling and rehabbing properties. He took pride in being the kind of landlord that provided clean affordable single-family homes. Johnnie bought his first property on North Street in 1955, and that’s where he found his passion and worked up until he was 92. Johnnie is survived by: one daughter and son in law; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sons, all of his brothers and sisters, and many dear friends. The family wishes to thank the Staff at Serene Garden, Swan Hospice and all of the family and friends that supported him during his illness.
