DUNLAP, Mr. Johnnie - Age 88, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Loving Joy Assisted Living-Flushing, MI. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Canaan Baptist Church, 910 E. Gillespie Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Charles E. Roots officiating. Interment Evergreen Cemetery, G-3415 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Dunlap will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1:00 PM - 8:00 Pm Friday, with the family present from 6:00PM-8:00PM, to receive friends. Mr. Johnnie E. Dunlap “Mr. D”, age 88 died peacefully, Sunday, October 22, 2017, at Living Joy Memory Care in Flushing, MI, surrounded by family and friends. Mr. Dunlap was born May 14, 1929 in Lancaster, South Carolina, to the late Augustus and Christine (Witherspoon) Dunlap. He grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina and later relocated to Flint MI. Mr. Dunlap retired after 44 years of service from General Motors – Metal Fabricating Division. Mr. Dunlap was married to Ruth Jermany for over 25 years before she preceded him in death in August of 1995. He was later blessed to find a loving companion in Vivian Petty, joining with her in marriage on October 3, 2001. He loved to keep busy with outside activities and was a master at repairing almost anything. He loved to travel, sing, listen to music and dance. Johnnie E. Dunlap leaves to cherish his memory and will be greatly missed by his wife, Vivian Petty Dunlap; children, Gregory (Gwen) Dunlap, Myron Dunlap, James (Bridget) Petty Jr., Karlous O’Neal, Glenda, Dwyna and Stephanie Dunlap and Kimberly Blair, all of Flint, MI; Chrisanetta (Mark) Matthews, of Phoenix, AZ, Cherita (Victor) Andrews, of Houston TX, and Terrie (Bobby) Daniel, of Wesley Chapel, FL; sister, Mary Alice (K.C.) McQueen; sister-in-law, Victorine George; brothers-in-law, Wade Jermany, Jr. and Wilbur (Marguerite) Carson, all of Flint; sisters-in-law, Bithe Vickers and Jean (Jackie) Tippy, both of Pine Bluff, AR, Lois (Billy) Pitts of Dallas TX; special nieces, Etoy George and Evelyn Richardson; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, special cousin, Thelma Dunlap Johnson, and many other cousins, family and friends survive. Mr. Dunlap was preceded in death by wife, Ruth Dunlap; sisters, Rosetta Witherspoon, Josephine Richardson, Dorothy Lee Harris, Alfreda Marshall, Beulah Mobley; and brother, James Dunlap.
