Mr. Johney Louis Gray Sr.

GRAY, Mr. Johney Louis Sr. - Age 88, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018 at his residence. Family hour 11AM Saturday, January 5, 2019 from Antioch Baptist Church, 1183 E. Stewart Ave., with funeral service commencing at 12PM. Rev. Wallace Hill, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Saturday. Mr. Gray will lie in state in the Chapel of the Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and my be viewed 12PM-8PM Friday, family present to receive friends 6PM-8PM. Mr. Johney Louis Gray Sr. was born September 2, 1930 in Crawford, Mississippi, the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Moses A. and Mary M. Gray. He was a former member of Charity Missionary Baptist Church in Mississippi. Johney made his transition from this life on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at home surrounded by loved ones. He was a loyal and dutiful member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Security Ministry until his illness. Johney also served 1 term in the United States Army as a Med Tech and in the United States Air Force as Military Policeman. He was employed by Buick Motor Company, a division of General Motors for a brief period of time. Johney retired from the United States Postal Service as Building Maintenance Engineer after 31 years of service. Mr. Gray also worked as a Security Officer at Mott Foundation through Guardsmark. He was a member of the Southern Gentleman’s Club. Mr. Gray married Willie Faye Simms in November of 1960 and from that union 5 children were born. Mr. Johney Louis Gray Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 33 years, Virginia Bullock-Gray; son, Johney Louis Gray Jr.; daughters, Teresa (Andre) Gray-Perkins, Kari Gray and Naomi (Christian) Johnson; step-children, Thomas (Gearldine) Williams, Andrea Williams, Sharon Bullock Keels, Robin Thompson; special grandchild, DeMara Williams Sr.; sister, Nettie Bell; sisters-in-law, Earnestine Gray and Nelda Neal; brothers-in-law, Arvin (Mary) Williams, Demson (Anturnett) Williams, Mildred Williams, Robert Brumfield and Jesse (Valerie) Simms; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his daughter, Daphne Gray; grandson, Deonté Sawyer; step-son, Perry Bullock; parents, Moses A. and Mary M. Gray; 4 sisters; and 6 brothers. The family would like to express a special thanks to sister-in-law, Earnestine Gray, special nieces and nephews, Mary Dulaney, Mary Tucker, J.B. Odneal, Charles Jupree, Dr. Roda, Dr. Tommy Stevens, respiratory therapist, Jessica Green, Sharon Keels and granddaughters, Destiny Johnson and Camisha Gray.
