TURNER, Deacon John Jr. - Age 76, passed away Friday, December 24, 2021 at Willowbrook Manor. Family hour 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1035 E. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Minister Archie Porter, officiating. Pastor Patrick Sanders Sr., Host Pastor. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Tuesday. Deacon Turner will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM Monday. Deacon John Turner Jr. was born July 30, 1945 in Greenwood, Mississippi, the son of Martha Reed and John T. Turner Sr. John attended Chicago Public Schools from 1-8 grades. At the age of 17 he began working at General Electric. In 1967, he moved his family to Flint, Michigan where he began employed with General Motors Corporation and retired in 1991 due to health problems. In 1986, he re-dedicated his life to God and was ordained a Deacon at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member under the leadership of the late Bishop Odis Floyd. John took his oath very seriously, he was faithful to the Deacon Board, but his true “love” was the Security in Ministry. Anything happening at New J, you could find him there patrolling the paking lot doing odd jobs and whatever was needed of him. Deacon John Turner Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife of 39 years, Mary Yvonee (Myrick) Turner; 3 daughters, Veronica Turner, both of Flint, Lori Lynn (Andrew) Pitchford and LaTesha (Ansel) Stewart, all of Detroit; 2 sons, John Taylor of Chicago, IL and Min. Archie L. (Thelma) Porter of Flint; 11 grandchildren, Yakena, Courtney, LiAndria, Ashley, Brooklyn, DiJuan, Latesha, Marquese, Jonnett, Archie Jr. and Destne’; 5 great-grandchildren, Nova, L’oral, Jordan, Autumn and Marquavius; 4 sisters, Lana (Frank) Clayborne of Little Rock, AR, Anna Ruth Turner of Greenwood, MS, Linda and Rhonda Turner, both of Greenwood, MS; 2 brothers, Robert (Leigh) Turner of Jackson, MS and Bruce Turner of Greenwood, MS; a host of nieces including, Clarissa and Kim Swilley, Pamela and Sharon Carter, Michelle Williams, Stephanie Turner, Shawanda, Sylvia and Kimberly Clayborne; a host of nephews including, Reynold, Andre, Derrick, Terrance, and Michum Swilley, Dana Williams, Sherman Carter, Jerry, Eddie and Frank Clayborne; 5 sisters-in-law, Barbara of Flint, Willie Jean, Gloria, Jacqueline and Lois, all of North Carolina; god-daughters, Donnietra L. (Dion) Walls and Ketesha Allen; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Luretha and Melvin Adams, Jerome Burnett, Lady Brenda Floyd, Rev. John Thornton, Letha and Jimmie Turner, Ebbie Alford, Jeanie Mayberry, Security Ministry and Deacons of New Jerusalem, Caldonia McGraw, Mother Mary Williams, Isabelle, Myrick and Langston families. Deacon Turner was preceded in death by his son, Ronnie Turner; parents, Martha Reed (Floyd) Parker and John T. (Kathryn) Turner Sr.; grandparents, Mattie and Rubin Reed, Annie Mae and Bennie Turner; sister, Theresa Turner; and friend, Oscar Harris.
