TOWNSEND, Mr. John Wesley - Age 82, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015 at his residence. Family hour 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Grace Cathedral Community Church, 1709 Nebraska Ave., with funeral service commencing at 12 p.m. Pastor Kelly C. Richards officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Townsend will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Townsend was born February 26, 1933, in Oxford, MS., to the union of Jessie and Carrie Townsend. Mr. J.W. retired from A.C. Spark Plugs, a division of General Motors. He was also a member of UAW Local 651. He loved working on cars and being outdoors, especially to tend to his greens he had planted on the side of the house. J.W. always had a joke to keep you laughing, even when he fussed. He was a faithful member of Grace Cathedral Community Church. He leaves to cherish precious memories loving wife, Mavis “Jackie” Townsend of Flint,MI; daughter, Sabrina Richardson of Detroit, MI; grandchildren, Shenesia “Gerell” Richardson of Flint, MI, Shanira Richardson of Pittsburg, PA, and Da’Vonn Richardson of Detroit, MI; great-grandchildren, Jawaun and Ja’Mesha “Angel” Richardson; parents, Jessie and Carrie Townsend; sisters-in-law, Ester (Edward) Reid of Flint,MI, Jerome (Roscoe) Hangs and Marie Walker both of Laurel, MS; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends Edward Reid, Sam Ivy, and adopted son Tyrone Myra Houston. Mr. Townsend is preceded in death by sisters, Vennie Morgan of Flint,MI, Lillie M. Jones and Ora Townsend both of Mississippi; brother, West Townsend; nephews, Leon Morgan and Demarcus Houston; brother-in-law L.G. Chilson and other in-laws, Leslie and Lucille Chilson; and dog of 18 years “Buttons”. The family would like to express special thanks to Grace Cathedral Community Church, Myra Houston, Sabrina Richards, Tyrone and Edward “Ester” Reid.
