John Roby

ROBY, Mr. John C. "Slim" - Age 71, departed this life on Friday, April 18, 2008 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Family hour 10:30AM Saturday, April 26, 2008 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM, Rev. Berna D. Brown officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30AM Saturday. Mr. Roby will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 2PM-8PM Friday. Mr. John C. Roby "Johnny" as he was affectionately known was born January 27, 1937 to parents Clarence and Nona Cain Roby of Sallis, Mississippi. He was the oldest of eight siblings. As a young man he attended Sallis High School and was a member of the Center Ridge Baptist Church where he confessed Christ at an early age. He rededicated his life to Christ a few days to his passing from this life. After relocating to Saginaw, MI, he was united in marriage to the late Edna Perkins and to this union one son, Jerod was born. Years later he moved to Flint, Mi and began working for General Motors. "Johnny" retired from General Motors in 2007 after 41 years of loyal service. He leaves to cherish his memory: three beloved children, two sons, Jerod Roby of Flint and Johnny (Frances) Allen of Saginaw, MI; daughter, Dora "Kim" Roy of Phoenix, AZ; three sisters, Agatha (Rev. John) Gaddis of Meridain, MS, Rev. Berna (Van) Brown of Saginaw, MI and Minister Bernice Gordon of Youngstown, OH; brother, Mr. Eugene "Pete" Roby of Saginaw, MI; sister-in-law, Katherine "Nettie" Roby of Sallis, MS; brother-in-law, Jimmie Dulaney, Sr. of Gulfport, MS; his loving companion of many years, Ms. Bettie Jean Green; her extended family whom he loved and appreciated so much, his grandchildren, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong friends and acquaintances. Mr. Roby was preceded in death by his son, Allen Henry; parents, Clarence and Nona Roby; two brothers, Vernal "Bunch" Roby and Claude Ray Roby; sister, Ernestine Dulaney; sister-in-law, Johnnie Marie Roby; brother-in-law, Rev. William Gordon. The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the McLaren Regional Medical Center staff for all the intensive care given and compassion shown to John and the family during his illness.
