John Needom

NEEDOM, Mr. John - Age 83, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 at his residence. Family hour 10:30AM Monday, April 7, 2008 at NorthStar Missionary Baptist Church, 1657 Broadway Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Pastor James O. Flowers, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Monday. Mr. Needom will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10AM-8PM Sunday. Mr. John "Johnny" W. Needom was born August 29, 1924 in Brickey, Arkansas, the son of Willie Needom and Erma Moore. He was a resident of Flint, Michigan for 33 years. Mr. Needom was a member of North Star Missionary Baptist Church, where he attended faithfully until his illness. He loved his church, his Pastor and his wife. "Johnny" completed his education in West Helena, AR. He retired in March of 1993 from General Motors Corporation-Flint Buick Automotive Division and was a member of UAW Local #599. "Johnny" enjoyed singing for many years with the gospel group "Traveling Stars" of Chicago, IL. He especially enjoyed being in the company of his trusted friends. "Johnny" also found fishing to be relaxing and very enjoyable. Watching baseball and basketball was a favorite pass time. He was a mathematical wiz, he could always be of assistance in the area of finance. "Johnny" exemplified trustworthiness and a gentle kind spirit, he had a smile that was beautiful. He leaves to cherish his memory: 4 daughters and 1 son, Pamela (Tommy) Smith of Flint, Paulette Needom-Coney of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Bobby J. (Rosie) Phillips of Bellwood, IL, Ruth B. (Otha) McGee of Chicago, IL and Mary L. Lamar; special daughter, Carolyn Alexander; companion, Rose Jones, all of Flint; 11 grandchildren including special granddaughter, Alvetta Needom; 10 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Bessie Martin of Saginaw, MI and Elizabeth (Robert) Brown of Centerville, VA; 5 nieces; 8 nephews; 6 cousins including special cousin, Elijah Joe Williams; sister-in-law, Beatrice (Eldridge) Johnson of Chicago, IL; brother-in-law, Johnny (Carolyn) Boyd of Fairfield, AL; a host of other relatives and friends including The Nerve Center Group-R. Russell, J. Jones, J. Copeny, J. Townsend, E. Landers, A. Bates, J. McClinton, and A. Townsend. Mr. Needom was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Needom; father, Willie Needom; mother, Emma Hope; sisters, Veola Needom, Ethel (Frank) Crawford, Girtha (Leon) Proctor; brother-in-law, Mickey Martin; and granddaughter, Lashun Phillips.
