Mr. John N. Motley Jr.

MOTLEY, Mr. John N. Jr., - Age 85, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Regency of Grand Blanc. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 4805 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Rev. Dr. Henry L. Fuller officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Motley will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM with the family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Deacon John Narvell Motley Jr., began life’s journey on August 14, 1934 in Figtree, Alabama to parents Arlela and John Motley, Sr. the 4th of thirteen children, John; affectionately known as Pete, moved to Flint, Michigan in 1953 to avail himself of the job opportunities in the area as had many of his siblings. John was raised in a Christian home, confessing Christ at an early age and upon moving to Flint, united with Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. On December 22, 1956, he married his sweetheart, Ruby Smith. To this union two sons were born, John N. Motley III and Marcus Motley. They were happily married for 56 years. Pete was employed at Chevrolet Metal Fabricating Plant, a division of General Motors as a Skilled Tradesmen. He retired after 42 years of service in June of 1995. He was a member of Eureka Lodge #16, a Sublime Prince of Saginaw Valley Consistory #71, Past Patron of Royal Star Chapter #27 and a member of Rising Star Lodge #1 in Alabama. John was a dedicated Christian serving God at Mt. Calvary through several ministries including: Deacon, Trustee, Finance, Church School, Choir and Youth Ministry. He made sure the snow was cleared from the parking lots, the doors were open for every event and responded to all the church alarms. He was also involved with District, State and National Youth Department events as he made sure Mrs. Ruby Motley and the youth of Mt. Calvary arrived at all the planned activities. Deacon John Motley Jr. leaves to cherish loving memories: 2 sons, John N. (Wilmernette) Motley III of Flint and Marcus (Bobbie) Motley of Grand Blanc, MI, 4 grandchildren, Breeonna (Ken) Collins of Indianapolis, IN, Cameron Wells of Phoenix, AZ, Takiyah (Grayling) Morris Jr. of Flint and Brooke Lynn Motley of Grand Blanc, MI; 2 great-grandsons, Amari Morris of Flint and Kasen Christian Collins; great-granddaughter, Cali Collins of Indianapolis, IN; 10 siblings, Dea. Samuel Motley, Lela Koger, Theoplis (Geraldine) Motley Sr., all of Flint, MI, Jean (Wilbur) Banks of Desoto, TX, Margie Young and Gwendolyn Gibbons, both of Millbrook, AL, Benny (Daisy) Motley of Burton, MI, Walter Motley, Iola Wilson, both of Clanton, AL and Dennis (Gwenda) Motley of Hopkinsville, KY; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Arter of Charlotte, NC and Barbara Motley; brother-in-law, Oscar Jenkins, both of Flint; a host of nieces and nephews; very special god-daughter, Sandra Cabine; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Dea. Ron and Juanita Orr, Mother Kathleen Estelle Rawls, Bobbie J. Ewing, Carolyn Spight, Rev. Dr. Henry L. Fuller Jr. & the Mt. Calvary Church family and special cousin, Jacob Moten. Deacon Motley was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruby Motley; parents, Arlela and John Motley Sr.; brothers, Charlie Motley and Colonel Motley. The family would like to express special thanks to caregivers, Rainbow Rehab, Dr. Peddireddy, Rhoda Strozier, Donnell Cannon, Monya Harrison, Sharon Robinson, Joyce Louis and Crystal Wilson.
