Mr. John Bush III

BUSH, Mr. John III - Age 65, made his transition to a larger life on April 7, 2020 at Hurley Medical Center. Mr. Bush was born in Flint Michigan on May 31, 1954 to Beverly and John Bush Jr. He was the 2nd of 6 children. He attended the Flint Public Schools including Jefferson Elementary & Bryant Jr. High where he met many lifelong friends. John graduated from Northwestern High School in 1972 where he was a member of the Marching Band and Varsity Football, Baseball, and Wrestling Teams. During his early years, John was always an industrious entrepreneur starting a paper route while in elementary school. His entrepreneurial spirit continued throughout his entire life. He has also had Snow Removal and Lawn Care Businesses and sold Avon Products during the years. He worked for the Flint Schools System Transportation Department where he started as a bus driver and retired in 2014, as the director of the Transportation Department. John was also an avid musician his entire life and played clarinet, saxophone, drums & keyboards and wrote and recorded music. John enjoyed all genre of music especially Rhythm and Blues and Jazz. He played music while driving the bus to reward the children for good behavior. He loved mentoring and supporting young people. He was a member of several bands during his youth and adult years including The Individual Soul Band and J.B. III & Friends. Along with his friend Johnnie Coleman, Mr. Bush was the DJ at the Annual Hurley Medical Center Employee Picnic for many years. John also performed at the City of Flints’ annual Music in the Park Concert Series. At the time of his death, John was the musician for the New Heart Church of God in Christ, Pastor Robert E. Chambers . His other interests were sports, fishing and travel. Above everything John treasured his family and friends, especially his children and grandchildren. Mr Bush's memory will be forever cherished by his 3 daughters Deserayah Bush of Davison MI, Jiobhan Bush of Houston TX, and Jillian (Chris) Barnett of Grand Blanc MI. Granddaughter, Jordyn Barnett who was the light of his life. He was joyfully awaiting the birth of his 2nd granddaughter Journee Barnett. Mr. Bush also leaves four siblings Sandra Bush Brandon, Lisa (Eric) Johnson, of Flint, Valerie Bush Ewing of Denver Colorado and David (Dana) Bush of Flushing MI. 7 Aunts Linda Davis McKinney of Flint, Ora Greene, Thelma Marie Jackson, Lula McKnight, Carrie (David) Goodman all of Hopkins SC, Dorothy Bush of Hempstead NY and Phyllis Bush of Atlanta GA., Stepmother Catherine Bush of Hopkins SC. Mr. Bush also leaves 8 nieces & 4 nephews, a host of cousins and other relatives. Among those he considered family was lifelong special friend and companion, Esther Gentry Thompson, friends & band members Johnnie Coleman, Willis Lewis, Danny Singleton, Mike Ballantine, Douglas Gibbs, Reggie Ferguson, Pastor Derrick Aldridge, Roger & Charles McClendon, his Fairfax Street friends & Marja Street neighbors. John Bush III was preceded in death by his parents John Bush Jr., Beverly Jean Bush, sister Nedra Faye Bush, grandparents John Sr. and Mary Bush, William and Fannie Walker, George and Mamie McMillan and Bennie Davis. The Bush family would like to thank Hurley Medical Center 5E Critical Care Staff for the exceptional care he received during his final days, especially for the communication with the family during this difficult time. They would also like to thank the Staff of the Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home for Mr. Bush's aftercare. Private Services have already taken place.
