Mr. John Adkins

ADKINS, Mr. John - Age 83, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 at Willow Brook Nursing Home. Family hour 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 317 E. Hamilton Ave., with funeral services commencing at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Dr. Mark A. Jones, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Bedford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. Adkins will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 noon - 8:00 p.m. Tuesay. Mr. Adkins was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army. Mr. John Lee Adkins was born March 28, 1931 in Huttig, Arkansas, the son of Inez Penny Mason and Fred Adkins. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Frankie Cowser and from this union they raised 2 sons, the late Charles Ray Adkins and Darvin Miles of Flint, Michigan. Mr. Adkins was a resident of Flint Township. He was a member of Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church where he sang in the Mass Choir, attended Sunday School Class #13 and Bible Study faithfully. Mr. Adkins was very passionate about spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He retired from Flint Truck & Bus Assembly, a division of General Motors in 1992. Mr. Adkins was a avid bowler and a member of the USBC Bowling Association. He also enjoyed working on cars, taking long walks, watching Monday Night Raw and Smack Down, traveling and going to his favorite restaurant, the Hong Kong Buffet. His favorite saying was “Baby, just be nice.” Mr. John Lee Adkins leave to cherish his memory: son, Darvin Miles; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Adkins, both of Flint; grandchildren, Tanisha (Kevelin Jr.) Jones, Charisse Adkins, Princess Coleman, Lonnie Williams, Damon Redmond and Amber Adams; also dear to his heart, great-grandchildren, Alicea, Kevelin III and Charles Jones, Lorenzo Redmond and Kiara Coolin; nieces, Evenlyn and Diane Taylor, Linda (Enos) Vanderson; a host of other relatives including special cousin, Donna Hall of Texas; friends including special friends, Irena Burns, A.D. Gray of Arkansas, Willie Johnson, Louis Dilworth and Ms. Clara Smith. Mr. Adkins was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie Adkins; devoted son, Charles Adkins; great-grandson, Benjamin Allen II; parents, Fred Mason and Inez Mason; step-brother, Freddie Mason. The family would like to express special thanks to Marquisha Baker, Ashley Gill, Tatianna Stokes, Taylor Jones, LauRen Jones, Irena Burns and Jacqueline Hardy, Nurse Denise Ockert and staff from All American Hospice, Rev. Dr. Mark A. Jones, Sr. and the Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church family. The family would also like to thank you for the prayers, phone calls and all acts of kindness.
