Mr. Joe Henry Wheeler

WHEELER, Mr. Joe - Age 74, passed away Friday, November 12, 2021 at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, November 19, 2021 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 2111 Flushing Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Greg Timmons, Host Pastor, Pastor Steven Wheeler, Officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:00 AM Friday. Mr. Wheeler will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Thursday. Mr. Wheeler was Honorably Discharged from the United States Air Force. Mr. Joe Henry Wheeler was born December 12, 1946 in Portageville, Missouri, the son of the late Samuel and Alice Wheeler. He attended Lilbourn East High and graduated in 1963 and shortly after that joined the Air Force where he served for 4 years. Joe relocated to Flint, Michigan and begun working for General Motors in 1967 where he retired after 40 years. Mr. Joe Henry Wheeler was united in holy matrimony to Lorraine West on January 28, 1968. Joe was a faithful and longtime member of Charity UMC. He taught Sunday School, Bible Study and Jail Ministry. He was a Lay leader and sung in the choir and was a member of United Methodist Men. He was currently a member of Calvary UMC. He loved going to church. He also enjoyed football, basketball, baseball. His favorite teams were St. Louis Cardinals Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Lakers. He loved working in the yard and playing with his grand kids and great grand kids. He officiated basketball, baseball and softball. He was also a Loving husband, father, brother, Uncle, grandfather and great grandfather. Mr Joe Henry Wheeler leaves to cherish his memories: loving wife of 53 years, Mrs. Lorraine Wheeler; 3 daughters, Jacqueline Lewis (Michael), Veronica Stansberry (Kenyon), Dawn Hollins (Dason Sr) all of Flint, MI; son, Keelen Granberry (Lavisa) of Detroit, MI; 15 grand-children, Terrence George, Jasmine Granberry, Shalonda Granberry, Jameka Brown, Jonae Wheeler, Ja’Dasia Hollins, Dason Hollins Jr., Kiera Stansberry, Kenyon Stansberry Jr., Xavier Norris (Eliza) all of Flint, MI, Jomontae Wheeler of Phoenix, AV, Keelen Granberry Jr.,Brandon Granberry, Brianna Granberry all of Detroit, MI; 19 great grand children which includes, Briyelle, D avion, JaKari, Ny’Eom, Alayja, Brooklyn and Khalil; 3 sisters, Elizabeth Kindred, Rosy Wheeler all of Flint, MI, Ann Clark (Willie) of Sikeston, MO; 1 brother, Billy Wheeler (Pearl) of Lilbourn, MO; 9 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law: and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special son, Darren Johnson of Pontiac, MI; special daughter, Cynthia George of Flint, MI; special grandsons, Erick Layton Jr., Saul Williams all of Flint, MI; special friends O.T Perry, Tommy Gist, Gary Smith all of Flint, David Dupree of North Carolina. Mr. Joe Henry Wheeler was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Alice Wheeler; 3 sisters, Iodia Johnson, Pricilla Lloyd and Altee Higginbottom; 5 brothers, Samuel Wheeler Jr., Robert Wheeler, Sylvester Wheeler, Willie Wheeler and Isaac Wheeler.
