Deacon Joe Lewis

LEWIS, Deacon Joe - Age 87, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Regency at Grand Blanc. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Southeast Christian Church, 4171 Lapeer Rd., Burton, MI, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Bishop Kenneth Brown, officiating. Entombment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Burton, MI. friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:30 AM Saturday. Deacon Lewis will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 P-6:00 PM Friday. Mr. Joe Lewis was born on November 23, 1936 in Kokomo, MS, the son of Esco Sr. and Mae Etta Lewis. Joe traveled North to Michigan as a young adult where he gained employment at General Motors V-8 Engine plant, a division of General Motors Corporation where he retired after 43 years of service and was a valued member of United Automobile Workers (UAW) Local 659. He was a strong, yet quiet man that enjoyed watching sports, cooking, fishing and serving on the Deacon Board at Southeast Christian Church in Flint, Michigan. Mr. Joe Lewis leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Della Lewis of Flint; daughter, Pamela Lewis of Kennesaw, GA; son, Alex Lewis; step-children, Patricia Horne, Christina Stevenson, Billy Ray Stevenson, Raford (Daveonda) Stevenson, all of Flint and Mark (Lucille) Stevenson of Lake Orion, MI; grandchildren, Keon’a Ward (Michael) Ward, Alex Lewis, Jr., both of Flint, Danyelle Lewis of Charlotte, NC and Brittney Thomas of Flint; great-grandchildren, Michael Ward of Orlando, FL, Keon Ward of Pontiac, MI, Lauren Roberts of Flint, Melanina Lewis, Malachi Lewis, both of Detroit, MI and A’Miracle Lewis of Saginaw, MI; a host of step-grandchildren including, Casey Mann, Shannon Stevenson and Dr. Karis (Andre) Buford; a host of step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Myrtis Roberts, Beatrice McDonald, both of Ft. Myers, FL and Avienell (Lovell) Carr of Pontiac, MI; brothers, Henry Ray (Patsy) Lewis of Shreveport, LA, Bill Lewis, Robert (Gail) Lewis, all of Ft. Myers, FL, Steve (Doris) Adams of Fountain, NC and Malcolm Adams of Bogalusa, LA; a host of other relatives and friends including special friend, Dennis Smith of Grand Blanc, MI. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his daughter, Monica Mitchell; parents, Esco Sr. and Mae Etta Lewis; sisters, Ruby Lee Davidson, Eva Willis, Jerry Smith and Pearl Lewis; brothers, Esco Lewis, Jr. and J.L. Lewis. The family would like to express special thanks to our relatives and friends for their words, expressions of love, concern, and heartfelt sympathy during this time of bereavement.
