Mr. Joe N. "Steaky" Leverette

LEVERETTE, Mr. Joe “Steaky”- Age 78, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Canaan Baptist Church, 910 E. Gillespie Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Charles E. Roots officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Leverette will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday. Mr. Joe Nathaniel Leverette was born April 24, 1935 in Marion, Alabama, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Otha and Hannah (Foster) Leverette. He retired from General Motors Truck and Bus after 37 years of service. His loved doing yard work at his home and everyone else’s in the neighborhood. His favorite pastimes were spending time with family and friends, and enjoying his cars. Mr. Leverette leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife and partner of 31 years, Lillie; 4 daughters, Sabrena (Emmanuel) Willis of California, Alisha (Stanley) Williams and Shirley Claybrook, all of Flint and Angela Hall of Ohio; 2 sons, Joe N. (Myra) Leverette, Jr. and Gregory S. Leverette, all of Flint; 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; three sisters; Malinda Robinson, Louise Thomas and Ellean Terry, all of Flint; one brother, Otha Leverette of Pensacola, FL; three sister-in-laws, Lorine Leverette of Pensacola, FL, Brenda Sturdivant and Marcella Sturdivant; three brother-in-laws, Lee Sturdivant, Nathan and Nathanial Sturdivant, all of Grand Rapids, MI; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including special friend and brother in Christ, Mr. Walter Tipton; best friend, Mr. Aaron Childs and the Kirkwood Lane (Flint) family and his Buddy buddies survive. Mr. Leverette was preceded in death by his infant twin daughters, Sherry and Sheron; 3 sons, Quintin V. Leverette, Sr., Mark T. Leverette, Sr. and Bruce; parents, Mr. & Mrs. Otha and Hannah Leverette; sister, Julia (Willie) King; seven brothers, Allen (Madie), Andrew “B”, Bose, J.W. (Flossie), Alexander “Foster”, Eugene (Roberta) and Charlie; and sister-in-law, Lureatha. The family wishes to thank Pastor & Sister Root and the Canaan Baptist Church family.
