Mr. Joe Willie Barber

BARBER, Mr. Joe Willie - age 93, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014 at his residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Monday, November 3, 2014 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Rev. Kenneth L. Stewart officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Association, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10 a.m. Monday. Mr. Barber will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Joe Willie Barber was born September 10, 1921 in Jonesville, Louisiana, the son of Emile and Margaret Barber. He been a resident of Flint since 1955. Joe worked at Buick City, a division of General Motors until 1986 and was a member of UAW Local #599. Joe enjoyed fishing and hunting, as a young boy he also enjoyed playing small town baseball. He also liked listening to sports and the news on the radio. Joe served in the United States Army, he was a Corporal in 4079th Quarter Master Service Company with a Honorable Discharge. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Mr. Joe Willie Barber leaves to cherish his memory: 2 daughters, Joann Vaughn of Flint and Earline Barber of San Leandro, CA; 2 sons, Willie Clyde (Lillian) Barber and Wayne Kent Barber, both of Flint; 7 grandchildren, Shaunnis Vaughn, Alicia (Sudedrick) McDaniel, Demetrius Barber, Kenell (Kapresha) Barber, Antonio Barber, Rashad Booker and Gina (Mauntrice) Howell; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille B. Jackson; a host of nieces including special nieces, Cheryl Barber, Queen Fields and Annie Redmond; a host of nephews including special nephews, Terry Barber and Henry Fields; 2 sisters-in-law, Vinellar Redmon and Hurley Barber; a host of other relatives and friends including special and best friend, Willie Coney. Mr. Barber was preceded in death by his wife, Queen Barber; daughter, Yvonne Barber; parents, Emile and Margaret Barber; sister, Louise Moore; 6 brothers, Walter, Leroy, L.T., L.V., Fred Barber and Barry James Sr. The family would like to express special thanks to, Hospice Nurses, Rebecca Taylor and Deedee Iverson.
