Mr. Jody Stevan Barbee

BARBEE, Mr. Jody Stevan - Age 60, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 at University of Michigan Hospital - Ann Arbor. Mr. Jody Stevan will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed Wednesday, February 17, 2021 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 N. Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Jody Stevan Barbee was born on June 24, 1960 in Flint, Michigan to Rev. Simon Barbee and Alice Barbee. Jody was the youngest of five children. He attended Flint schools graduating from Flint Northern High School in 1978. Jody was a proud Viking!! After graduation Jody enlisted in the United States Army and served for three years. After his discharge, he worked a variety of jobs, his last with the Genesee County Parks. He enjoyed his job and looked forward to going each day. He stopped working to take care of his beloved mother until her death last year. Jody was a quiet person who preferred his books and tinkering on his car to socializing. He would read the encyclopedia and dictionary from cover to cover. Being an avid reader, Jody made weekly trips to the library. We would joke that he has read every book in the library. Jody was straightforward in what he had to say and never exaggerated anything let alone fib about anything. He took his tinkering seriously enough to teach himself how to do whatever he wanted. Jody was a gentle person…until he was crossed…. he didn’t play. Jody was quiet and extremely smart. He was Very protective of his family and made sure his niece and great niece had what they needed to feel safe. Jody followed a routine that he wouldn’t stray from unless he absolutely had to. Jody also had a great singing voice. Jody did not have a church home, but he read his bible daily and listened to God’s word faithfully. Jody leaves to cherish his memory, two sisters Mary Lynn Barbee of Davison: Althea Joyce Barbee of Flint, brothers David Bruce, Simon Arthur, and Marvin Barbee, all of Flint. One Niece, Lynise Ma’re Barbee, and great Niece Ava Rae Jewell Hayes both of Grand Blanc. Aunts Amilee Troutman of Flint and Sarah Faire of Centerville, IL. Former Brother-in-Law Therman Lusane Jr. A host of cousins, friends, and his classmates “78 Vikings.” Neighbors Mrs. Dorothy Alexander and Ms. Connie Lee. Jody was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Simon Barbee and Alice Jewell Barbee, sister Mary Louise Barbee, grandparents, many uncles’ aunts, and cousins. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Hurley Medical Center and at the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center, Ann Arbor, MI, for their kindness, compassion and tireless efforts. We are forever grateful. Also Thank you for the cards, calls, prayers from family, friends and everyone who kept us in their thoughts. “We Love You Jody" until we meet again dear brother!
