Mrs. Jocille Johnson

JOHNSON, Mrs. Jocille - Age 85, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Briarwood Manor. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with memorial service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Faith Green Timmons officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Jocille Johnson was born September 24, 1927 in Asher, Indiana, the middle child of Joseph and Virgie Mae Wickware. She was affectionately, known as “Joe” all her life. Mrs. Johnson moved from Indiana to Flint, Michigan when she was a child. She attended Flint Central High School and graduated, “Class of 1946.” Mrs. Johnson was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church up until the time of death. Mrs. Johnson, along with her husband managed Harold Steak House until his death. After his death, she was a mother and homemaker. She was a very creative and talented person. Mrs. Johnson created many beautiful quilts, crochet hats, dolls and slippers. She made many crochet washcloths that will be cherished always. We received many crochet gifts over the years. Mrs. Johnson was avid fisherwoman. Some of her happiest times were on a fishing bank with a can of worms and her fishing poles. She has passed her joy of fishing to some of her children and definitely her grandchildren. Mrs. Johnson was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She leaves to cherish: 5 daughters, Haroletta M. Lilly, Jennifer L. Mitchell, Sheila E. (Rev. Kelvin) Weston, Paula V. (Calvin) Pruitt, Alvatina L. Wilson (fiancé, Travis Davis) of Palm Coast, FL; 2 sons, Harold A. Johnson and Anthony D. Allen; stepdaughter, Barbara Jean Summers; 38 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ceoria Coates of Oak Park, IL; 2 nephews, Thomas (Maryann) Coates of Oak Park, IL and James Wickware of Battle Creek, MI; 2 great-nieces; sister-in-law, Eddie Wickware of Battle Creek, MI; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Al and Jewel Bowe, Bertha Forster, Pastor Faith Green Timmons and the Bethel United Methodist Church family. Thank you for the cards, words of encouragement and friendship shown to Mrs. Johnson throughout her life, but especially during her times of illness. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Johnson; daughter, Tonya Johnson; parents, Joseph and Virgie Mae Wickware; brother, James “Pete” Wickware; and many other ancestors. The family would like to express special thanks to all the caregivers that took care of our mother over the years. We especially want to thank the staff and doctors of Visiting Physicians for caring for our mother over the years. We want to send special thanks and blessings to the staff at Briarwood Manor especially the 300 wing. We want to also thank the excellent nurses, nursing assistants, doctors from Hurley Medical Center that cared for our mother over the years.
