Mrs. Joann Williams

WILLIAMS, Mrs. Joann - Age 54, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Genesys Health Park. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with memorial service commencing at 11 a.m. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Ms. JoAnn Williams was born May 27, 1959 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Jessie and Ivy Mae Williams, Sr. Singing was her passion and she showcased such talent singing with several gospel groups, the latest being R.E.I.G.N. JoAnn had gospel music in her bones. She was raised at St. James C.M.E. Church, where she got her start singing gospel music and later moved her membership to Kingdom of Heaven Ministries. JoAnn enjoyed skating mostly at Skateland Arena in Mt. Morris, MI, she was an avid bowler, a professional connoisseur of good food (she was really picky unless it was “great food”). She had many achievements in life, graduating from Northwestern High School “Class of 1977,” she was proud to be a “Wildcat.” JoAnn attended Stage One Hair School in Memphis, TN, successfully completing her Certificate in Hair Sculpture, where she had perfect attendance. She was awarded a Certificate of Honor from McCree Theatre & Fine Arts. JoAnn competed in many music competitions in high school and won a scholarship to Kentucky State University, where she studied vocal music. She was a member of a band called “Different Directions” with her brother, Jessie Williams, Jr. and others; performing around the city of Flint in the 1980’s. Her musical talents were recognized often and landed the gospel group R.E.I.G.N. a spot on the gospel show TCT. JoAnn had other musical talents and was associated with other groups too numerous to mention. She was a free-spirited, happy-go-lucky person; always having a kind word to anyone she met. Her willingness to help, acquired many friends and associates in her travels, also too many to mention. JoAnn worked for General Motors several times throughout her career; a Production Assembler and Security Officer Supervisor for Pinkerton Security. Ms. JoAnn Williams leaves to cherish her memory: her finest accomplishment her son, SSG. Josan Levelston of Ft. Campbell, KY Army Base; mother, Mrs. Ivy Mae “Booty” Williams; brother, Jessie (Kantarat) Williams, Jr. of Houston, TX; niece, Angelina Michelle Jenkins of North Carolina; 2 nephews, Jessie Williams III and Paul Williams; 2 great-nieces, Monique and Tiara Coble; the Rae, Lathan and Henry families. Ms. Williams was preceded in death by her father, Jessie Williams, Sr.; sister, Angelina Jenkins; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. The family would like to express special thanks to longtime friends, Sherrie Williams of North Carolina, Rosie and Tina Moreland (50 yrs), both of Flint, neighborhood families, Hurley Medical Center, U of M-Ann Arbor, MI and Crestmont Rehabilitation Center doctors and nurses.
