Mrs. Joann Lucille (Alexander) Williams

WILLIAMS(ALEXANDER), Mrs. Joann Lucille - Age 77, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Heartland Health Care Center-Fostrian. Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, December 1, 2018 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM Bishop LonDari Hughes officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 PM Saturday. Mrs. Williams will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday. Mrs. JoAnn Lucille Williams was born March 15, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, the first child of nine (6 boys and 3 girls) born to Douglas Sr. and Olivia Alexander. For about 10 years, JoAnn attended school in Chicago, IL, then White Cloud, MI. When the family moved to Flint, Michigan, JoAnn attended and graduated from Flint Northern High School. After graduation she enrolled in Nursing School at Mott Community College where she became a Licensed Registered Nurse. At different times in her career, she was able to earn her living working for the following: Hurley Medical Center, St. Joseph Hospital, Flint Osteopathic Hospital and a few other medical facilities including University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. JoAnn met and married Mr. Joseph Williams in 1975. Subsequently, she left hospital employment and became a Private Duty Nurse before retiring from nursing to become a full-time skilled Tailor and Seamstress with many clients throughout the Flint area. JoAnn loved the Lord and proudly testified of living saved for more than 67 years of her life. She was a faithful member of the Holy Ghost Church Ministries and she loved her church family. JoAnn accepted her call as the Matriarch and spiritual head of the entire Alexander family. She made it her business to often inquire about your relationship with Christ. JoAnn was a brilliant Bible Scholar and daily, she would intercede in prayer for every member of the Alexander family and everyone with whom she came in contact. She had a giving, charitable spirit. JoAnn enjoyed sewing, artistic painting, quilting and crafts of all kinds. She was a formidable champion at playing Scrabble and Pick Up Sticks and invited all comers to a challenge. JoAnn was a very talented singer/songwriter and composer of a library of gospel songs she played on her electric piano. In 2002, JoAnn became a published author of a book, “Americana-Spiritual Illuminations compelling, thought provoking, collection of prose, poetry and essays she wrote and created between 1993-2000. Mrs. JoAnn L. Williams leaves to cherish her memory: niece, Alaunda R. Langston; sister, Olivia (Thomas) Alexander-Quinn of Grand Blanc, MI; 4 brothers, David Alexander, Anthony (Jennifer) Alexander, John (Leali) Alexander, all of Flint and Malcolm (Catherine) Alexander of Encinitas, CA; cousin, Kimberly Allen-Brown of Chicago, IL; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other cousins, other relatives and friends including 2 dear friends, Mary C. Coleman and Phyllis Peterson. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Williams; parents, Douglas Sr. and Olivia Alexander; grandparents, John & Emma Williams, Elijah & and Emma Alexander; sister, Peggy Langston; brothers, Douglas Alexander and Norman Alexander; and brother-in-law, Buster Langston. The family would like to express our thanks to Heartland Manor, Heart-to-Heart Hospice staff, Denise Helgeson and Lawanda Mance. And a very special thanks to Lawrence E.
