Mrs. Joan Adams

ADAMS, Mrs. Joan - Age 84, passed away Monday, March 15, 2021 at her residence. Due to Covid restrictions the funeral service is for family only and limited to 75 people. Funeral service commencing 11:00 AM Saturday, March 27, 2021 from Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Adams will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday with the family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Mrs. Joan Adams was born in Flint, Michigan on February 24, 1937, at 809 E. Spencer Street to Elizabeth Perkins and George Moten. She attended Flint schools: Parkland Elementary, Emerson Junior High, and old Northern High, graduating in 1955. Joan married Lucian “Cooter” Adams Sr., with whom she was the proud parent of three beloved sons, Lucian, Jr., Michael, and Donald. They had many, many fun times together, especially during the boys’ childhood but also after they grew up and started their own families. Joan's wonderful family and their accomplishments made her very proud. Prior to her illness, Joan was always available to help others. After her retirement, Joan was very active as a volunteer at Hurley Medical Center, where she was very active in the Hurley Auxiliary. Over the years, she held several offices such as President, President-Elect, Secretary, and Membership Chair. One of her favorite places to volunteer was within the surgical lounge of the hospital, where she served as chairperson for three years. Joan accepted Christ and was baptized very early in life at Golden Leaf Baptist Church. Later in life, she was active in her membership at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she loved being a member and loved her brothers and sisters in Christ. She was always available when approached and specifically enjoyed participating in the Hospitality, Outreach, and Women’s Senior Ministries. Joan enjoyed working in her yard and could often be seen tending to her grass, flowers, shrubs, and other abundant plant life. Mrs. Joan Adams is survived by: three loving sons, Lucian “Cooter” Adams Jr. (Joe Ellen) of Flint, Michael Adams (Heather) of Grand Rapids, MI, and Donald Adams of Detroit, MI; four grandchildren, Brittany Renaud (Martin) of Snellville, GA, Ashley Green (Tony) of East Lansing, MI, Bria Adams of Washington, D.C., and Dyren Billups-Adams of Columbus, OH; two great-grandchildren, Anthony and Aniyah Green. Joan is also survived by her twin sister, Joyce Turner of Flint and daughters in love and mothers of her grandchildren, Grace Jones (Rollin) and Angela Boykin (Thomas); special nieces, Darlia Singleton of Phenix City, AL, Sandra Bowman-Mosley of McDonough, GA, Cheryl Sanders of Stone Mountain, GA and Tracy Jackson of Lanham, MD; special sisters-in-law, Shirley Hoilett, Lolita Bright, Leila Adams, and Jessie Adams, all of Flint; very special friends, Lorene Randall, Lula and Sherwood Pea, Vivian and Norman Graham, Shirley Ranville, and Juanita Cunningham; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth Perkins and George Moten; sisters, Barbara Jackson, Elaine Battles, and Patricia Nelson; brothers, George Moten and James Jones. The family would like to express a very special thank you to Joe Ellen Adams (beloved daughter-in-law) who was always available to assist Joan at any time. We are eternally grateful for your love and compassion. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Rabon Turner and Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church family, Bishop Urundi Knox and the Ebenezer Ministries family, the staffs of Spencer Manor Living Well, Woodland Park Assisted Living, Grace Hospice and Angelic Heart Home Care & Hospice for the affectionate and tender care that they provided.
