OWENS, Deacon Jimmie H. - Age 71, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at his residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2012 at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1035 E. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Eld. John Thornton, officiating, Pastor Patrick Sanders, Host Pastor. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Monday. Deacon Owens will lie state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Deacon Jimmie H. Owens was born April 28, 1941 in Columbia, Tennessee, the son of the late Roger E. and Lucille Cotham Owens. Jimmie was a graduate of Carver-Smith High School in Columbia, TN “Class of l959.” He moved to Flint, MI where he worked and retired from Buick Motor Division Plant 36 after 40 years and was a member of UAW Local 599. Jimmy was united in marriage to Loys Marie Williams Owens of Jacksonville, TX; from this union 2 sons were born. He was later united in marriage to the late Lawana Moore Owens of Tuskegee, AL from that union there were 2 sons born. Jimmy was a former Deacon of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church. He leaves to cherish his memory: 4 sons, Darren Owens, Michael (Michele) Owens, Darryl Owens and Destry (Melissa) Owens; 13 grandchildren, Antonio McNeal, James McNeal, Chavez Wyatt, Martez Wyatt, Matra Owens, Martelles Owens, Michael Owens, Jr., Michri Owens, Malachi Owens, Dailaysha Owens, Arnetta Haley, Alyssa Yancy and Andre Yancy, “ In the words of Malachi Owens-Papa is not gone he sleep.”; 6 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Bettie (Sherman) Wilkinson of Georgetown, KY and Linda Owens of Columbia, TN; 4 brothers, William (Jean) Owens of Hampton, VA, Larry (Joan) Owens of Richmond, VA, Gerald (Narcissus) Owens and Marion Owens, both of Columbia, TN; 5 god-children, Veronica Bailey, Diane Smith, Ronique Givens, Nehemia Mayfield and Sarah Nettles; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Deacon Owens was preceded in death by wife, Lawana Owens; parents, Roger E. and Lucille Cotham Owens; sister, Barbara Jean Holmes; and brother, Ralston Owens. The family would like to express special thanks to Adrena Cooper Smith, Hometown Hospice and the New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church family.
