Mr. Jimmie Clyde Barfield Jr.

BARFIELD, Mr. Jimmie Clyde Jr. - Age 68, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at his residence. Mr. Barfield will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed Thursday, December 3, 2020 from 10AM - 6PM. Jimmie Clyde Barfield was born March 19th, 1952, the son of Jimmie Clyde Sr. and Lucille Barfield in Flint, Michigan. Jimmie attended school in the Flint Community School System, graduating from Flint Southwestern High School in June of 1970, and started school at Michigan State University in the Summer of 1970. While at Michigan State University, Jimmie was involved in a number of projects, one including a stint as columnist for the university school paper the “State News.” One of Jimmie’s main joys was pledging and becoming a member of the Sigma Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated where he crossed in November 12, 1971, with his duo sands, Carlton Evans. In the mid-70’s, Jimmie moved to Colorado to explore a new frontier and find employment. While there Jimmie adapted the life style there enjoying the mountains and outdoor recreational lifestyle. Jimmie worked in the retail and concierge services at the Denver Airport; where his very personable and friendly nature excelled with travelers. After an 8-year period, he decided to return to his hometown area to be close to his extended family and to enjoy more of his love with the fraternity and his fraternal brothers. Over the years his love and involvement with the fraternity would continue to grow. Often his involvement would not have been possible without his favorite buddies LaDale Woods and Robert James. Jimmie retired from Shue and Voeks after many years. During retirement he loved working the polls at Berston Field House. Jimmie came from a close-knit family; with five siblings, three preceded him in death, Tommie (Pringle) Barfield, Linda Barfield and Theresa (David) McIntosh. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie Clyde Sr. and Lucille Barfield; nieces, Monica Barfield and Sheena Thomas; nephew, Daquon Skinner; brother-in-law, David McIntosh; sister-in-law, Jacquelyn D. Pea-Barfield; many aunts and uncles. Jimmie Clyde Barfield leaves to cherish his memory: 2 brothers, Fred Barfield and Jerome (Yolanda) Barfield. Jimmie was part of a large family where his uncles and aunts, along with cousins including special cousin, Aaron Pringle, would often gather on North Street at his boyhood home in Flint; a host of nieces including special niece, Marie Barfield Ferguson; a host of nephews including special nephew, JayDen Barfield; a host of other relatives and friends including good friend, Tony Greene; special brother-in-law, Donald Lawler. To Know Jimmie, one would know that Jimmie had a multi-faceted life style, he was known as both personable, but also colorful and even feisty at times. But to know him was to love him. Jimmie will be missed.
