Mr. Jim Billups

BILLUPS, Mr. Jim - Age 88, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2025 at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Carpenter Road Apostolic Church, 4010 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Bishop John Allen, officiating. Interment, River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Billups will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Mr. Jim Billups was born March 18, 1937, in Artesia, Mississippi, the son of Verryniece Harrison and Jim Billups Sr. Jim enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 18 and served 6 years. After being Honorably Discharged, Jim moved to Flint, Michigan where he spent years as a Supervisor at the Genesee County Boys Home. He met and married Virginia Nelson in 1966 and together they had Jimeka Lynn in 1968. Jim later married Effie Odom in October of 1997. He spent 42 ½ years employed by Flint Assembly, a division of General Motors Corporation, retiring as a Reliefman. Jim also spent most of his retirement watching sports and talking about politics. He loved to grill and crowned himself, “Grill Master”! he thought he was the best!Mr. Jim Billups leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Effie Billups of Flint; 3 daughters, Angela (Thomas) Boykin of Columbus, OH, Annetta Odom of Flint and Nina (Benny Ray) Shelton of Crawford, MS; 3 sons, Anthony Billups of Florida, James (Audrey) Odom and Michael (Amy VanDeusen) Odom, all of Flint; 2 sisters, Matilda Ross of Columbus, MS and Mattie Standard of Grand Blanc, MI; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Earl (Betty) Gilcreast, Charles McGehee, Marvin Ingram Clayton Relerford, Leroy Litzey, Richard Bates, Aaron Cooper and Terry Smith. Mr. Billups was preceded in death by his daughter, Jimeka Lynn Billups; grandson, Marcus Fulton; parents, Verryniece Harrison and Jim Billups Sr.; sister, Earlene Gillespie; brother, Arthur Billups. The family would like to express special thanks to McLaren-Flint Hospice staff, Dr. Korant, Fresenius Dialysis staff and Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home.
