KELLUM, Mr. Jettie - Age 87, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, May 23, 2025, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Elder Keith Bennett, Officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Friday. Mr. Kellum will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed during family hour only. Jettie “Sug” Kellum departed this life and entered into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. Born on September 6, 1937, in Osceola, Arkansas, Jettie was the youngest of twelve children born to the union of Ed and Elmira (Taggard) Kellum. Jettie was educated in the Arkansas community school system before making the move to Flint, Michigan, where he would go on to build a life full of love, laughter, and purpose. On July 19, 1968, Jettie married the love of his life, Lois Bennett. Together, they raised six children and created a home that reflected their deep commitment to faith, family, and each other. A hardworking man devoted to providing for his family, Jettie spent many years working at General Motors AC West. He was a proud member of UAW Local #659 and remained dedicated to his work until his retirement in 1999. Jettie will be remembered for his quick wit, warm heart, and love of fellowship. He enjoyed card games, dominoes, sports, family reunions, and sharing a good joke. A loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers, Pistons, and Lions, he rarely missed a game and loved cheering on his hometown teams. His faith was an important part of his life. Jettie was a longtime member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and later attended Kingdom First Church of God in Christ alongside his beloved wife, Lois, until her passing. Jettie “Sug” Kellum leaves to cherish his memory: 2 sons, Aurelio Kellum and James Smith; daughter, Valarie (Martin) Walker; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly—including his special niece-daughter, LaTonja Bennett; nephew, Kenny and Linda Kellum; and granddaughter, Nakia “Lil Girl” Smith. Jettie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois Mildred Kellum; daughters, Angelia Kellum, Evelyn Pitts, and Thrada Smith; grandson, Danny Pitts; parents, Ed and Elmira Kellum; 4 sisters; and 7 brothers. The Kellum family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Tawnya of Dr. Alan Goldberg office, Dr. Alan Goldberg, McLaren Hospice, McLaren staff 9th, 6th, 5th floor, Mr. and Mrs. James Rideout, Elder Keith Bennett and the amazing staff of Vogt’s Flowers. Jettie “Sug” Kellum will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
