ROGERS, Mr. Jessie - Age 78, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008 at his residence. Family hour 10AM Monday, May 19, 2008 at First Union Missionary Baptist Church, 7004 Fleming Rd., with funeral service commencing 11AM, Pastor Archie Powell, Jr., officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Monday. Mr. Rogers will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 8AM-6PM Sunday with family present 3PM-6PM. Mr. Jessie Rogers, Sr. was born October 20, 1929 in Starkville, Mississippi, the son of Willie and Nimmia Rogers. He accepted Christ as a child at Plair United Methodist Church in Starkville, MS. While in Starkville he drove trucks and was known as "Borat". Mr. Rogers married Mandy Deloach on September 20, 1952. They relocated to Evanston, IL and from there to Flint, MI in 1963. He worked for General Motors for 35 years "Chevy in the hole" and was a member of UAW Local 659, retiring in November 2001. Mr. Rogers loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was known for his great cornbread and pot roast. Mr. Rogers was also well respected in his neighborhood. He leaves to cherish his memory: 7 children, Jessie Jr. of Flint, Linda (David) Lanear, Sr. of Clio, MI, Patsy Ruth of Davison, MI, Rev. Wendell Rogers, Glen (Anita) Rogers, all of Flint, Eld. David (Laverne) Rogers of Grand Blanc, MI and Ben Rogers of Starkville, MS; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Rogers of Flint; 12 grandchildren, Candice Smith of Memphis, TN, LaShon (Orlando) Gibson, LaToya (Terry) Thames, Leelonda, Kisa, David Lenear, Jr., Glen Roges, Jr., Whitney, Courtney, Keshyra Woods, Kyndall and David, Jr.; great grandchildren, Tony, Shonteara, Imani, Orlando Jr., Decorian Jr., JaKobie, Harmoney, Terry Jr., Harmon; 5 sisters, Eva (Andrew) Brown, Julia (Leonard) Brown, Mattie Rogers, all of Chicago, IL, Martha Jackson of Evanston, IL and Hattie Rogers of Starkville, MS; 5 brothers, M.C., Oscar (Christine), Johnny, and Walter Rogers, all of Starkville, MS and J.C. of Chicago; aunt, Maime Knox; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Deloach, Mary Deloach, Margarice Davis, Susie (Cleaveland) Rives; brothers-in-law, Sammie (Clarice) Deloach, Alex (Mary) Deloach, Johnny (Nazree) Deloach, Pastor Roosevelt (Ollie) Deloach and Pastor Terry (Carolyn) Davis; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Mr. Joe Hampton, Mr. Ron Craine, Yvette Hobbs, Sam and Tammy from Big Star, Stepanie and Ted. Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his wife, Mandy (Deloach) Rogers; parents; 4 brothers; 1 sister; mother-in-law and father-in-law; 3 brothers-in-law.
