Bro. Jesse L. Lakes

LAKES, Bro. Jesse L. - Age 89, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, G-5443 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 12 noon. Bishop Neal Roberson, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Wednesday. Bro. Lakes will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 noon -8 p.m. Tuesday with family present from 5-8 p.m. and Masonic Service from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Bro. Jesse L. Lakes was born July 12, 1924 in Flint, Michigan to Isiah and Carrie (Wright) Lakes. He attended Northern High School, where he participated in a number of sports and boxed on the Flint Golden Gloves Team. He left High School to join the Civilian Conservation Corp (C.C.C. Camp) in Houghton Lake, MI. Bro. Lakes was drafted in the United States Army and served in WWII. After which, he returned home and was hired at Buick a division of General Motors. Bro. Lakes united in Holy Matrimony to his high school sweetheart of 53 years, Anna Bell McLaurin. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board for 27 years and voted Chairman Emeritus. Bro. Lakes was President of the Floral Club, Church Van Ministry, Laymon and Bowling Club. He also was a member of Rose of Sharon Lodge A.F.&A.M. Mason 33rd Degree Post Worshipful Master, Grand Master M.W. King David Grand Lodge, Potentate of Ciaro Temple #4 Flint & Saginaw Supreme Royal Patron of Amaranth Grand Patron of Greater Queen Ester, Rose Marie #33, Cape Jasmine #2 Willie B. Meeks Order of Amaranth Joshua of Beauty Rose Court Heroines of Jericho, Ambassador of Holy Gross Council Ladies of Knights Templar, Mecca Court Daughters of Spinx, Patron of Matron and Patrons Council, District Deputy, Board of Director for M.W. King David Grand Lodge, Detroit Consistory #1, Enoch Commander #9 of Knights Templar Harim Chapter #2 Royal Arch Mason and member of the St. John Street Old Timer’s Club. He leaves to cherish his memory: sons, Jesse (Adele) Lakes, Jr. of California and Fred (Gwen) Lakes of Muskegon, MI; 2 daughters, Barbara Lakes of Flint and Phyllis Lakes of Wayne, MI; 27 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Georgia Barbee of Baldwin, MI; 2 brothers-in-law, Jack McLaurin and Doug Edward, both of Flint; 3 sisters-in-law, Helen Harden, Gloria Hobbidy, Rasa Lee (Alvin) Kendall of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousin and friends including special friends, Aunt Evelyn Ward, Mamie Wiggins, Alice, Josiah and Lawreace Curry, Anne Thompson, Herbert Stewart, Sugar Girl Shuntay Lakes, Rita Edward and Gerdine Winfield. Bro Lakes was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Bell Lakes; daughter, Patricia Davis; parents; sister, Rose Edward; 3 brothers-in-law; and 1 sister-in-law. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Raffee, Bishop Neal Roberson and the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church Family, Pastor Alfred L. Harris, Sr., and the Saints of God Church Family, Pastor Timothy Stokes and the Family Worship Center Church International and Rose of Sharon Lodge.
