JAMES, Bro. Jerry - Age 86, passed away Monday, December 3, 2007 at his residence. Family hour 11AM Monday, December 10, 2007 at Southeast Christian Church, 4171 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon. Pastor Kenneth M. Brown officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Monday. Bro. James will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Sunday. Bro. Jerry James was born on March 26, 1921 in Branchville, South Carolina to the late Mr. and Mrs. Perry and Carrie (West) James. Bro. James was one of 8 children. He was educated in the Branchville Public School system. Bro. James left Branchville, SC and moved to Charlotte, NC, where he worked for Kresges Company before relocating to Flint in 1953. He was a faithful member of Southeast Christian Church and former member of Bethlehem Temple Church, where he was a member of the Men's Choir, Brotherhood, Usher Board and Security Ministry. He retired from Buick a Division of General Motors Corporation in 1985 and was a member of UAW Local #599. Bro. James enjoyed reading the Bible, gardening, shopping, working with tools and traveling with his family. Bro. James was loved and cherished by his family and will be dearly missed by his wife, Doris James of 37 years; 3 sons, Jerry James of New York City, Garrett (Kendra) James, Sr. and Curtis Collins; granddaughter, Courtney James; grandson, Garrett D. James, Jr., all of Flint; brother, John (Perla) James of El Paso, TX; 2 brothers-in-law, Rev. Eddie Collins of Flint and Paul Collins of Detroit; sister-in-law, Janet Sloan of St. Albans, NY; goddaughter, Heather Harris; special nieces and nephews, Paula Pritchett of Flint, DeSherryl Lambert of Detroit, LaVetta Mayfield of Castaic, CA, Nathaniel James of Bronx, NY, Alexander James, Jr. of New Jersey; a host of other relatives and dear friends including special friends, Elder Oris House, Mr. Sonnie Massey, Deacon Herbert(Dorothy) Williams, Pastor Annie Furgerson, Mr. Leroy (Evangelist Aileen) Spence, Ms. Louise Williams, Missionary Myrtle Howell and Missionary Florence Moore. Bro. James was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Perry, Alexander, Sr. and Tommy James; 3 sisters, Maggie, Letha Kelly and Marie Thompson. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Kenneth M. Brown and the entire Southeast Christian Church family, Hurley Medical Center, Dr. Syed Sattar and staff, Dr. M.R. Beer and staff, nurses of Tender Loving Care, Sharon Callahan and Karren Husocki of the Hurley blood team and home health care workers, Laketra Hagler, Levon Gray, Mae Hatter, Marguriete Booker, LerLean Campbell, Sharon Naylor and Ashley Allen.
