Mr. Jerry Dewayne Hamlin

HAMLIN, Mr. Jerry Dewayne - age 61, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at his residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2109 M.L. King Ave. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Rodney Ellison officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10 a.m. Friday. Mr. Hamlin will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Jerry Dewayne Hamlin was born on January 27, 1953 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Herman S. and Gloria E. Hamlin. Jerry graduated from Flint Northern High School, “Class of 1972.” He was employed at Eastern Michigan Food Bank, and was a very good Handyman. Jerry loved the Lord, he was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Men’s Ministry, and attended Sunday school. Jerry’s pastimes included family gatherings, his love for all music, fishing, playing dominoes and cards. His favorite TV shows were CSI and Law & Order. He enjoyed watching all sports, volunteering with UYAA Baseball, flag football and basketball. Mr. Hamlin leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Felicia Coleman-Hamlin; 2 daughters, Gloria Hamlin and Janesha Davis; 2 sons, Jerry Turnbow and JaJuan Davis; step son, Eddie Coleman; 5 grandchildren, Jerry Jr, Jace, and Jeriyah Turnbow, Landon and Kiara Thompson; mother, Gloria E. Hamlin; 4 sisters, Demetric (Richard) Morrison, Elaine (Roy) Key, and Eloise Hamlin, all of Flint, Jacqueline (Kenneth ) Bransford of Burton, MI; 3 brothers, Gregory (Joann) Hamlin of Flint, Steven Hamlin of Houston, TX and David Hamlin of Lancaster, TX; 6 nieces, Shawn, Chekeeta, Julie, Pam, Rashida, and Safiya; 7 nephews, Tyrone, Lavell, Alvin, Donald, Edwin, Jeremy and Gregory; 4 aunts, Alberta (George) Haamid, Nannie Waddell, all of Flint, Marquita Hamlin of Binghamton, NY and Artis Broadnax of Eden, NC; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Kevin Henderson, Artis Robertson and Shamieka Thompson. Mr. Hamlin was preceded in death by: father, Herman S. Hamlin; 1 niece; mother-in-law, Jane Coleman; 3 brothers-in-law; and 1 sister-in-law. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Rodney and First Lady Cassandra Ellison and the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church family and the staff of Gentiva Hospice.
