DAVIS, Mr. Jerry O. "Sonny" - Age 61, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at his residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m., Pastor Benny Stribling officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10 a.m. Tuesday. Mr. Davis will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Monday. Mr. Jerry O. “Sonny” Davis was born July 14, 1948 in Bastrop, Louisiana, the son of Neal and Willmer (Wanzer) Davis. He graduated from Flint Northern High School in Flint, MI, “Class of l967”. Jerry was a Vietnam Veteran serving in 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army. While in the Army, Jerry received various medals for valor. Upon returning to Flint, MI, Jerry attended Mott Community College and Detroit College of Business. In 1970, Jerry married Lucretia (Chilton) and to this union was born a daughter. Jerry retired from General Motors with 26 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 599. Jerry was a fun-loving, kind individual who enjoyed playing basketball and loved Jazz music. He was best known for sense of style and vast knowledge of historical facts. Jerry had a great sense of humor and remembered EVERYTHING about EVERYONE he had ever met. Jerry was a proud father, who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Jerry O. Davis leaves to cherish his memory: daughters, Rameka T. Davis of Birmingham, AL, and Mia Alexander-Davis of Burbank, CA; 3 step-children, Brian Briggs, Twiana Briggs, Chelita Jones; 2 nieces, Ileane (Shawn), Yvonne (Nikki) Davis; 2 great-nieces, Chyna and Adrian; 1 nephew, W.J. Townsend, Jr.; 4 great-nephews, Antwaun, Terrance, Deion and JaSiah; aunt, Irene Torian of Florida; and 5 cousins; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Roy Chatmon, Gwen Robinson, Shirley Jones, Gordon and Marie Gregg. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, Neal and Willmer Davis; sister, Erma (Patsy) Davis.
