Mr. Jay Harvey Wilson

WILSON, Mr. Jay Harvey - Age 82, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023, at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Rabon Turner, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Saturday. Mr. Wilson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Mr. Jay Harvey Wilson was born April 9, 1940 in Philadelphia, Mississippi, the son of Mr. Odell and Mrs. Sadie Vester Wilson. Mr. Wilson was married to the love of his life, Annie Lois “Ms. Ann” Wilson for 55 wonderful years. He was a proud resident of Flint, Michigan for over 50 years and owned homes in both Michigan and Mississippi. Jay was a dedicated member of Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church where he served as an Usher, Choir Member and on the Church Bowling League. He loved the Lord and he attended church every Sunday until his health failed. Jay graduated from Hopewell Vocational High School in Philadelphia, MS. He was the rock of the family, as a young man he worked side jobs to put food on the table for his parents and siblings. Jay retired from General Motors Corporation after 31 years as a Job Setter. Jay enjoyed bowling where he was a force to reckon with. He never missed watching sports which was his favorite past-time. Jay watched them all, football, baseball and basketball. He was a member of a social group called “The Super 10”, a group that gathered for vacation travels, social events and were known for helping families in need within the community. Jay was also called “Big Jay”, “Uncle Jay” and the “God Father”, because he was a sharp dresser. He owned and operated his lawn care services for over 30 years. His clientele included Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church and over 30 residential homes just to name a few. Mr. Jay Harvey Wilson leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife, Annie Lois Wilson; daughter, Lisa Wilson; grandchildren, Jayquel Wilson, and Jordan Taylor, all of Flint; great-grandchildren, Jackson Mateen, Christian Brown and Ja’Tayvion Lee, all of Flint; brother, Willie (Clovis) Wilson of Gary, IN; sisters-in-law, Pauline Wilson of Gary, IN, Silver Hewitt and Ella Polk, both of Flint; brother-in-law, W.C. (Mabel) Thames of Louisville, MS; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Theodis Hampton, Frank Miller, both of Flint and Johnnie Hollowell of Hertford, NC. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his grandson, Jonte “Taye” Mateen; parents, Odell and Vester Wilson; sister, Sadie Mildred Turner; 2 brothers, Ezell Wilson and Virgil Wilson. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Willow Brook Manor, McLaren-Flint, Dr. Rafee, Pastor Dr. Rabon L. Turner and the Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church family, and all our relatives, friends and neighbors for the many acts of kindness shown during our time of bereavement.
