Mr. James Corey Waterford Jr.

WATERFORD, Mr. James Corey Jr., - Age 44, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at his residence. Family hour 12:30 Sunday, October 17, 2021 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with a memorial service commencing at 1:00 PM. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 12:30 PM Sunday. There will be no public viewing. Mr. James Corey Waterford was born September 28, 1976 in Flint, Michigan to Virginia Louise Stephens and James Cleo Waterford. James, affectionately called Corey by his family except for his dad who proudly called him James, was a lifelong resident of the City of Flint. James graduated from Flint Southwestern Academy in 1994. Previously, James belonged to the South Flint Tabernacle where he attended faithfully with his dad. James previously worked at Sears Automotive and since 2012 for the City of Police Department as a Neighborhood Service Blight Officer. Between the time James worked at these two positions, James’s father became ill. James then devoted his life to being his father’s caregiver. In his role as primary caregiver, James served selflessly, without complaining and always with honor, dignity, kindness and, most importantly, an unconditional love. James was adored and loved by not only his parents, but his 10 siblings as well. Left to cherish his memory are three brothers, Duane (Bobbie) Greenlee, Sr. of Detroit, MI, Bretford Griffin of Birmingham, AL, and Louis Stephens, Jr. of Saginaw, MI; four sisters, Theresa (Alvern) Lock of Grand Blanc, MI, Drusilla Stephens of Hilliard, OH, Tracy Sheffey-Jones of Flint, MI, and Kimberly (James) Thompson of Midlothian, TX; bonus brother, Justin Stephens of Detroit, MI; sister-in-law, Wanda Stephens of Columbus, SC; and aunt, Faye Spears of Flint, MI. James loved and adored his many nephews and nieces. Nephews who will cherish his memory: Louis III, Duane II, Kevin, Terry, Marcel, Bretford Jr., Dior, Dionte, Sigsbee, Joshua, Stephen, Victor, Jeffrey, Edward, and Tristian. Nieces who will cherish his memory: Tokeshia, Sharise, Araika, Chanda, Belinda, and Sariah. James also left a host of great nephews and nieces, cousins, and friends. Preceding him in death were his beloved mother, Virginia L. Stephens (1994), and father James Cleo Waterford (2008), along with three brothers, Fredrick “DeRay” Watson, Roosevelt “Frosty” Stephens, and Jeffrey M. Stephens. The family wishes to give a special thank you to Pastor Michael Lewis of the Gospel Temple MBC; Officiating Associate Pastor LaTrelle Holmes, Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church; and the outstanding and kind staff of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home.
