UNDERWOOD, Mr. James – Age 53, passed away Monday, March 28, 2011. Family hour 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m. Mr. Underwood will lie in state in the Chapel and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. James Underwood was born on August 20, 1957 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Cecil and Pauline (Carson) Underwood. Mr. Underwood resided in Flint his entire life. James was a member of True Gospel Missionary Baptist Church since 1993. He was a member of the Hunts Determination Band in the 70’s. James enjoyed dancing, wrestling, gardening, cooking and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Underwood was well loved, respected and brought joy to whom he encountered. Mr. James Underwood leaves to cherish his memories: life partner, Jorain Hardman; 2 daughters, Labrina B. and Manita N, Person; 2 sons, Jamar J. and Christopher J. Underwood; 3 god-daughters, La’kristen, Michelle and Honey Santiago; 3 god-sons, Doreace, Julius and James Santiago; grandchildren, Andrew and Fantasha Spencer, Delmarco, Layonna and LaRaya Person, Jaylen and Jawan Ferguson, Jaheim Person-Ferguson, Jazmine Holmes, Storm Razon, Javier, Saphyre, and Jamarion Underwood, Tashaun, Kristian and Olivia Underwood; god-grandchildren, Antonio, Semaj, Rashaun and Keriona Santiago; great-grandchild, Aaleaha Person-Spencer; 5 sisters, Linda A. (Harold T.) Cochran-Ryan, Flora L. Underwood, Cecilla D. Simon, Magdaline T. (Robert) Trumbo and Paulette Vanpalt; 2 brothers, Alonzo C. (Jackie) of Arkansas and Donnell A. (Lillie) Underwood; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins including special cousin, Virginia Goines; special nephews, Gerald Cochran, Reece and C. C. Underwood; special friends, Irma Urquhart and Sabrina Person, the mother of his children. Mr. Underwood was preceded in death by his son, Chris John Person; granddaughter, Serenity Starrie Mae Joyce Jonell Underwood; parents, Cecil and Pauline Underwood; grandparents, George E. and Willie Rose Carson, Sally (Sanders) and Colie Underwood; uncle, George Evans Carson, Sr. and aunt, Novella Boston; brother-in-law, Eulas Van Palt.
