SMITH, Mr. James - Age 79, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Regency of Grand Blanc, Grand Blanc, MI. Mr. Smith will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed Tuesday, December 8, 2020 from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Mr. James Smith was born on October 12, 1941 in Newbern, Alabama, the son of Judie Nora and Robert Smith. He graduated from Hale County Training School (Greensboro, AL) in 1960. Soon after, he left his hometown and moved to Flint, MI. He later secured employment with Chevrolet Manufacturing, a division of General Motors Corporation. With more than 25 years of service, he retired. James was a member of Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Flint, MI where he attended Sunday school and worship service as often as he could until his health began to fail. Whenever James would be seen amongst others, he offered a pleasant hello and a warm, gentle smile. Mr. James Smith leaves to cherish his memory: children, Sabrina (Larry White, fiancé) Smith, Roderick Smith, Tyrone Smith, all of Flint, and Tommy Patrick, Greensboro, AL; grandchildren, Jeremy Smith, Monica (Demetrius) Woodley, and Jeremiah White, all of Flint, and 4 great-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives including devoted nieces, Barbara Watkins, Flushing, MI, Sara Burgin, Stone Mountain, GA, Sandra (Stanley) Collins, Merrillville, IN, Dazarine Taylor, Flint, MI, and Jeri Washington, Grand Blanc, MI; loving cousins, Hessie Thomas, Detroit, MI and Henry Lee Williams, Fort Wayne, IN; and special friends Flora Smith, Flint, MI and the residents of Cedarwood Apartments, Flushing, MI. James was preceded in death by his daughter, Yvette; parents, Robert Smith and Judie Nora; and sisters, Leuvenia McIntyre, Clara Shelton, Mary Smith, Mattie Johnson, Annie B. Afzal, and Sarah A. Taylor. The family of James Smith would like to thank the staffs of Hurley Medical Center and Regency at Grand Blanc as well as the love, support, and prayers that have been received from friends.
