SMITH, Mr. James P. - Age 60, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2011 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Mr. Smith will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 2-8 p.m. Monday. Mr. James Phillip “Bam” Smith was born June 29, 1951 in Blytheville, Arkansas, the son of Malinda and Sonny Hughes. “Bam” graduated in the early 60’s at Osceola High School and worked at the Busch Canned Factory and the Sanitation Trucking Company. In 1986, he became a resident of Flint. After moving to Flint, he always loved working on cars and would work on them from his home. The joy in his life was working on cars, watching movies and listening to music. “Bam” also loved to conversate, he talked so much, he would talk someone to sleep. When you stop by, it would be hard to get away, because he could talk your ears off. Mr. James Phillip Smith leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Bonnie Smith of Flint; 10 daughters, Delores, Angela, Marshall of Blytheville, AR, Beverly, Malinda, Jennifer, Sarah, Iesha, Jamie and Shakara; 2 sons, Sampson and Jermaine; 7 step-children, Tracy, Jojuanna, Charles, Jr., Teionya, Jessica, Joanna and Brandon, all of Flint; 33 grandchildren, Quatrail, Darnisha, Larry Jr., Taren, Janiya, Shiron, Jamarion, Jamal, Angel, Sheunna, Jadaria, Allan, Quadasia, Al’Asia, Joseph IV, Eugene Jr., Ja’Kayla, De’Angelo, De’Vondre, La’Darian, Terriona, Daiveon, Daviion, Ja’Marcus, R’Quaveon, Samuie, Jamiya, Damonta, Javonta, Lamontionna, Lamont, Montez and Davon, all of Flint; 3 great grandchildren, Rodney Jr., Zaniya and Zalicia; mother, Malinda; sister, Easter May of Blytheville, AR; brother, Earl Smith of California; 4 nieces, Shelia, Rameko, Trudy and Terri; 2 nephews, David Forman and Earl Smith, Jr., all of Lansing, MI; mother-in-law, Earline of Flint; 5 sisters-in-law, Ruthie of Jonesboro, AR, Mattrie of Blytheville, AR, Alma and Bertha, both of Flint and Delois Booth of Port Huron, MI; 5 brothers-in-law, Luther, Donny Quint of Davenport, IA, Allen Burrage and Willie Tyler, all of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Glen, Sonya, John Jr. Bonner, Fat Cat, Tommy Robinson, Mr. James, Candace Walters, Mel, Harrison, Guy, Lawrence Mao, Florine and Shelly. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father, Sonny Hughes; great grandson, R’Rion Green; great granddaughter, Sanaii Green; brother, Joseph Smith; and nephew, Jimmy Robinson, Jr. The family would like to express special thanks to Rev.
