Mr. James Johnson

JOHNSON, Mr. James - Age 54, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with memorial service commencing at 11 a.m. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Mr. Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12 noon-8 p.m. Monday. Mr. James Alvin Johnson was born January 30, 1959 in Catherine, Alabama, the son of Eliza Ann Johnson and Andre Baldwin. James was raised in Catherine by his aunts, Velma Lucy and Thelma Holifield until his teen years, after which, he became a resident of Flint, where he lived with his uncle, Earnest Johnson for the duration of his childhood. James graduated from Northern High School and was an active member of New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, where he worshiped for many years. His last employment was with General Motors. He was known for his fashion statements; he loved to dress and was very good at it. James was always dressed for whatever occasion. He also had a love for trucks, “Big Ones”, James loved his trucks the “Bigger the Better”. Last but not least, everyone who knew James knew that he was very outspoken; if he thought it, he said it. There was never a shy moment about him; those who knew and loved him expected nothing less. Mr. James A. Johnson leaves to cherish his memory: daughters, Beonka Conklin and Marilyn (Jodey) Townsend, all of Flint; grandson, Carter Bates of Flint; father, Andre Baldwin; sister, Glory Mae Gamble; brother, Charles Baldwin Gamble, all of Catherine, AL; special aunts, Velma Lucy of Catherine, AL and Thelma Holifield of Birmingham, AL; special uncle, Earnest (Betty) Johnson of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends including special friend, Brenda Waits. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his mother, Eliza Ann Johnson. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home for all of their help and generosity, and to everyone who contributed to help the family and came to support and standby us during this time of need during the loss of our loved one.
