HOLLINS, Mr. James A. - Age 77, passed away Saturday October 8, 2011 at Brian's House. Family Hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday October 15, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m. Min. Sharon Riley, officiating. Interment will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2011 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Hollins will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12Noon - 8 p.m. Friday. Mr. James A. Hollins was born July 18, 1934 in Cambridge, Ohio, the son of Idus and Geneva Hollins, Sr. James was a resident of Flint and a graduate of Flint Central High School and Mott Community College where he majored in Community Education. He also attended classes at University of Michigan-Flint in Education and Kellogg University at Michigan State University where he received his Insurance License. Mr. Hollins was a United States Airforce Veteran serving as Airman Third Class and was Honorably Discharged July 31, 1960. His employment experience included working at True Green Chemlawn as a Sales Representative, Flint Community Schools, Associate Community School Director; Imperial Insurance Company, Sales Representative; Prudential Insurance Company of Flint, MI, Sales Representative; Urban Coalition of Greater Flint Program Coordinator and Love, Inc. of Flint as Program Assistant. His hobbies were fishing and gardening. Mr. James A. Hollins leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Martha Hollins of Flint; 4 sons, Jamie Hollins-Beasley of California, Mario Hollins, Terrance Hollins and Christian Hollins, all of Flint; grandchildren, Quitia Hollins, Melisa Hollins, Carlus Hollins, Isaiah Hollins, Devon Hollins and Kylee McCorkle; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Palmer Anderson, Marian Hollins and Dorothy Spear; brother, Anthony Buckler, all of Flint; very special niece, (like a daughter, Karla Hollins-Yuille) nieces, Patricia Jones, Andrea Hollins, Frances Stockman, Tracy Hollins and Kelly Hollins, all of Flint, Claudia Marshall of Columbus, OH and Courtney Gray of Atlanta, GA; nephew, Charles Stockman of California; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends including special friend, Heinitsh “Earl” Woodson. Mr. Hollins was preceded in death by his son, Carlos Hollins; parents, Idus Hollins, Sr. and Geneva Hollins; grandmother, Lillie Ford; and 2 brothers, Idus Hollins, Jr. and Myron Hollins. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of McLaren Regional Medical Center especially, Case Manager Ruthie Tolbert and the staff of Brian’s House.
