HOCKETT, Mr. James Nelson - Age 67, passed away Thursday, March 17 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Hockett will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday. Mr. James Nelson “Poochie” Hockett was born March 12, 1949 in Union City, Tennessee the son of Mr. & Mrs. Ardell and Helen Cason. He was a long time resident of Flint, Michigan where he attended Flint Community School System. In his younger years, James worked for General Motors eventually gaining employment with Coleman Tire Service. He was a dedicated employee until his retirement. James always had a love for cars, changing and fixing tires was second nature to him. When he wasn't working on cars, you would find him fishing. James loved to find way to make people laugh. His laughter will be missed. James and Judy had a everlasting love that was evident at first glance and their love continues to flourish. Mr. James Nelson “Poochie” Hockett leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Judy Hockett; 5 daughters, LaShawn Jones, Sheresa Carroll, Shermaine (Curtis) Lee, Metoia Burt and Teresse Lowe; step-daughter, Tenecra Pennyman of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Ariana Shine, Justin, Darrion, Ariana and Camille Jones, Sharleana Bly, Shermicka and Steven Patton, Andre, Anthony and Devonta Carroll, LaShandra Brown, Deangelo Owens, George Rogers IV, Andreada Johnson, Jayden Armstrong, Keonta and Isiah Lowe; 16 great-grandchildren including, Aaliyah and Liana Lattimore; 3 sisters, Diane (Lloyd) Anderson, Myra (Vincent) Housley, and Stephanie Hall; 5 brothers, Adrell (Lanette) Cason, Milton (Gloria) Cason, Roy (Sheila) Cason, DeWanyne Cason and Michael Davis; 10 nieces; 15 nephews; 3 aunts, Faye, Jean and Lisa Fry; father-in-law, Clifford Pennyman of Flint; sister-in-law, Patricia Pennyman of Atlanta, GA; 3 brothers-in-law, Michael Pennyman of Atlanta, GA, Terry Pennyman of Texas and Ronald Pennyman of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends Teresa Barnes, Onka Henderson, Kinya Eldridge, Eric Hawkins and Jasmine. Mr. Hockett was preceded in death by parents, Ardell and Helen Cason; biological father, William Hockett; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Jones; and sister, Gladys Thompson.
